On a sunny morning by the sea, Pip the puffin sets out looking for adventure. Small, round and always in a hurry, he teams up with his best friend Gilda the guillemot, who is calm, careful and carries a woven seagrass satchel. As the two search the rocky shore, Pip spots something shiny half-buried in the sand: a smooth pink shell covered in tiny swirls and dots. Gilda studies it and realizes the pattern looks like a map, full of clues pointing to somewhere special.
Pip wants to dash off at once, but Gilda reminds him to look closely before rushing. Together they follow the shell's clues past a bear-shaped rock and a line of stepping stones, until the trail seems to end. It takes patience, and a little teamwork, to notice the smile-shaped gap between two rocks that leads them onward. On the other side they discover a hidden path lined with pink flowers and moss, opening into a secret garden tucked between the cliffs, full of butterflies, blossoms and a bubbling stream.
This gentle tale shows young readers how curiosity and patience work best together. Pip's eagerness and Gilda's careful thinking each matter, and the friends find their treasure because they share the adventure rather than racing ahead alone. It is a warm story for children about friendship, cooperation and noticing the small details around us, and it suits read-aloud sessions at home or in the classroom.

A Chapter from the Book
The Puffin's Treasure Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
On a sunny morning by the sea, Pip the puffin woke up with a big yawn. He tied his little red neckerchief and looked out at the sparkling water. "What a perfect day for an adventure!" he chirped. Pip was small and round, with a bright orange beak striped with yellow and blue-grey. He loved to explore, but he never liked to wait. 1
Pip waddled down to the rocky shore where his best friend Gilda the guillemot was stretching her long, pointed beak. Gilda was slim and tall, with a dark chocolate-brown head and a clean white belly. She wore a little woven seagrass satchel across her body. "Good morning, Pip," she said calmly. "Are you ready to look for treasures today?" 2
The two friends searched along the beach, peeking under seaweed and between stones. Pip hopped impatiently from rock to rock, while Gilda walked slowly and carefully. "Look at everything!" Pip cried. "Shells, pebbles, and... oh!" He stopped so fast that his orange webbed feet skidded on the wet stones. Something shiny was half-buried in the sand. 3
Pip pulled out a beautiful shell. It was smooth and pink, with a strange pattern of tiny swirls and dots. "What do you think this is?" asked Pip, his round amber eyes wide. Gilda came closer and studied the shell. "It looks like a map," she said thoughtfully. "See these little lines? They might be clues to somewhere special." 4
Pip bounced up and down. "A map! Let's follow it right now!" He started to dash off, but Gilda gently held up one dark grey foot. "Wait, Pip," she said. "We need to look at the pattern carefully. If we rush, we might miss something important." Pip sighed, but he nodded. He knew Gilda was usually right about these things. 5
Gilda traced the swirls on the shell with her long beak. "Look here," she said. "This swirl points toward the big rock shaped like a bear. And these dots look like stepping stones." Pip tilted his head. "I know that rock! It's near the tide pools." He looked at Gilda with excitement. "You're so good at figuring things out. I would have just run off!" 6
The two friends set off along the shore. Pip led the way, hopping over small waves, while Gilda followed with her steady, upright walk. They passed the bear-shaped rock and found the stepping stones, just as the shell showed. "We're on the right track!" Pip cheered. The sun was warm, and the sea breeze smelled salty and fresh. 7
At the last stepping stone, the trail seemed to end. Pip looked around. "Where do we go now?" he asked, a little worried. Gilda studied the shell again. "There's one more clue," she said. "These tiny dots curve around like a smile. Maybe we should look for something shaped like a smile." Pip frowned. "A smile? In the rocks?" 8
Just then, Pip noticed a gap between two large rocks. It curved in a gentle arc, like a happy grin. "Look! A smile-shaped gap!" he shouted. Gilda smiled too. "That's it!" she said. "The shell is leading us through there." Pip started to squeeze through, but then he stopped. "Wait," he said. "Let's go together. It might be dark in there." 9
Gilda nodded, and the two friends went through the gap side by side. On the other side, they found a narrow path hidden behind the rocks. The path was lined with tiny pink flowers and soft green moss. "Oh!" gasped Pip. "I've never seen this path before. We must be the first ones to find it!" Gilda's dark eyes sparkled with wonder. 10
The path led them to a small, secret garden tucked between the cliffs. There were bright yellow flowers, purple sea thrift, and little white daisies nodding in the breeze. Butterflies danced in the sunlight, and a tiny stream bubbled over smooth stones. "It's beautiful!" whispered Pip. "I can't believe we found this!" Gilda squeezed his wing gently. 11
"We found it together," Gilda said. "You spotted the shell, and I read the clues. Then we both followed the path." Pip looked around at the flowers and the butterflies. "You're right," he said. "If I had rushed off alone, I might have gotten lost or missed the smile-shaped gap. Sharing the adventure made it better." 12
They explored the hidden garden, sniffing the flowers and listening to the stream. Pip found a smooth, flat stone that was perfect for skipping, and Gilda discovered a patch of tiny shells that glittered like jewels. They sat together on a soft mossy bank, watching the butterflies. "This is the best treasure ever," said Pip happily. 13
"And we have the shell to remember it," said Gilda, placing the mysterious shell in her seagrass satchel. "But the real treasure is this garden, and the fun we had finding it." Pip nodded. "I'm glad we didn't rush," he said. "And I'm glad you were with me." They smiled at each other, the warm sun shining on their feathers. 14
From that day on, Pip and Gilda visited the hidden garden often. Sometimes they brought little seeds to plant, and sometimes they just sat and listened to the sea. They never told anyone else about their secret place, because it was their special discovery. But they always remembered that the best adventures are the ones you share with a friend.
