Milo the marmot lives in a cozy burrow beneath a big pine tree, and one sunny morning his digging turns up something unexpected: a rolled-up parchment map. It shows a winding path, a tall peak and a spot marked with a flower, and Milo is sure it leads to a secret flower garden. There is just one problem — the squiggly lines and tiny words make his head spin, so he hurries off to ask his friend Pippa the pika for help.
Pippa, tiny and quick with a red neckerchief and a small blue notebook, can read the map, and together the two friends set out up the mountain trail. They watch for a tall pine with a crooked top, find a safer way around a pile of gray rocks, hop across a cold, fast stream on flat stones, and rest in a meadow of wildflowers when Milo's short legs begin to ache. When a gust of wind snatches the map onto a high ledge, each friend must rely on the other's strengths to get it back.
The story follows a gentle, unhurried journey in which curiosity meets patience and planning. Young readers see that asking for help is not a failure, that a small companion can be the one who saves the day, and that reading a map — or any difficult thing — becomes possible when two friends work through it step by step. It suits children who enjoy animal adventures, mild suspense and stories about cooperation, and it offers parents and teachers a warm way to talk about teamwork, perseverance and sharing a discovery with someone you care about.

The Marmot's Mountain Map - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
Milo the marmot lived in a cozy burrow under a big pine tree. He had golden-brown fur, a cream belly, and a forest-green explorer satchel with a brass buckle. One sunny morning, while digging near an old rock, his paw bumped something hard. It was a rolled-up parchment map! Milo's dark brown eyes grew wide with curiosity. 1
Milo unrolled the map and studied it with his chubby cheeks twitching. It showed a winding path, a tall peak, and a spot marked with a flower. 'A secret flower garden!' he squealed. But the map's squiggly lines and tiny words made his head spin. 'I need help,' he admitted, and he hurried off to find his friend Pippa. 2
Pippa the pika was tiny, about half Milo's size, with soft grayish-tan fur and big round ears. She wore a red neckerchief and always carried a small blue notebook. Milo showed her the map. 'Can you help me read this?' he asked. Pippa's bright black eyes sparkled. 'Of course! Let's follow the landmarks together,' she said, tucking the notebook under her arm. 3
The two friends set off up the mountain trail. Milo bounced ahead, eager to reach the garden. 'Wait for me!' called Pippa, her little paws scurrying. 'The map says to watch for a tall pine with a crooked top.' Milo slowed down and looked around. 'There it is!' he pointed. They marked the spot in Pippa's notebook and continued on. 4
Next, the map showed a pile of gray rocks that looked like a sleeping bear. Milo tried to climb over them, but his short legs slipped. 'Let's find a safer way,' said Pippa. She studied the rocks and noticed a small path around them. 'Follow me!' she chirped. With teamwork, they scrambled safely to the other side. 5
Soon they heard the sound of rushing water. A sparkling stream crossed their path, and the map showed they had to cross it. Milo dipped a paw in and pulled it back. 'It's cold and fast!' he worried. Pippa spotted a line of flat stones. 'We can hop across these,' she said. 'I'll go first and you follow my steps.' 6
Milo watched Pippa hop from stone to stone, her red neckerchief fluttering. Then it was his turn. His plump body wobbled, but he took a deep breath and jumped. Splash! One foot slipped, but Pippa grabbed his paw and pulled him to the last stone. 'Almost there!' she cheered. They both landed safely on the far bank, laughing with relief. 7
On the other side, the trail grew steep. Milo's short legs ached, and he started to grumble. 'This is taking forever!' he huffed. Pippa opened her blue notebook. 'Look,' she said, 'the map shows a shortcut through a meadow of wildflowers. We can rest there.' Milo's grumpy face brightened. 'A flower meadow sounds perfect!' 8
They pushed through tall grass and emerged into a meadow dotted with yellow and purple blooms. Butterflies danced around them. Milo flopped down, panting. Pippa pulled out the map again. 'We're close,' she said. 'The garden should be just beyond that ridge.' Milo felt a burst of energy. 'Then let's go!' he said, jumping up. 9
As they climbed the ridge, the wind grew stronger. Milo's map flapped in his paw. 'Hold it tight!' cried Pippa. But a gust ripped the map away! It tumbled through the air and landed on a high ledge. 'Oh no!' Milo gasped. 'How will we find the garden now?' Pippa looked at the ledge and then at Milo. 'We'll get it back together,' she said. 10
Pippa studied the rock wall. 'I'm small enough to climb up there,' she said. 'But you'll need to boost me.' Milo nodded and cupped his paws. Pippa stepped into them, and with a big push from Milo, she leaped onto the ledge. She grabbed the map and held it up in triumph. 'Got it!' she called down. 11
But now Pippa was stuck on the ledge. 'I can't jump down!' she squeaked. Milo looked around and saw a thick vine hanging near the ledge. 'Grab the vine and I'll pull!' he shouted. Pippa wrapped her tiny paws around the vine, and Milo tugged with all his might. Slowly, she swung down to safety. 'Teamwork!' they cheered together. 12
With the map safe, they followed the last landmark: a twisted tree that looked like a dancing lady. Beyond it, the ground opened into a hidden valley. Milo and Pippa gasped. A carpet of flowers stretched before them—red, blue, yellow, and pink— all rare and beautiful. 'We found it!' whispered Milo. 'We really found it!' 13
They wandered through the valley, sniffing the sweet blossoms. Pippa sketched flowers in her blue notebook, and Milo collected a few fallen petals. 'This is the most wonderful place,' said Milo. 'And I couldn't have found it without you, Pippa.' Pippa smiled. 'And I couldn't have climbed that ledge without you. Teamwork makes everything better.' 14
On the way home, they talked about their adventure. Milo's satchel was full of petals, and Pippa's notebook was full of sketches. 'I learned something today,' said Milo. 'What's that?' asked Pippa. 'That sharing the work makes every challenge easier—and more fun!' Pippa nodded. 'And friends make the best maps,' she added with a grin. 15
Back at the burrow, Milo pinned the map above his bed. He and Pippa shared a snack of sweet roots and berries. 'Tomorrow, let's explore somewhere new,' said Milo. 'As long as we go together,' replied Pippa. And they did—because with teamwork and friendship, every mountain is a little easier to climb.
