Under a big old gum tree, in a burrow lined with soft leaves, lives a little wombat with round brown fur, a lighter tan belly, and short stubby legs. He always wears a small red backpack, ready for adventures. One sunny day, he packs a snack and a shiny pebble and sets off to explore the bush beyond his burrow. Along the way, he meets a spiky echidna with a long slender snout and a tiny yellow scarf. The two become fast friends and decide to explore together.
Their adventure leads them to a dark, half-hidden tunnel. At first, the little wombat feels scared, but the echidna stays close and encourages him. Together, they discover a secret room filled with sparkling crystals and a tiny stream, a smooth stone shaped like a heart, and a patch of glowing moss. They learn that being brave is easier when you have a friend by your side. They find a cozy den that becomes their secret hideout and make a promise to always share their adventures.

A Chapter from the Book
The Little Wombat - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
Under a big old gum tree, in a burrow lined with soft leaves, lived a little wombat. He had round brown fur, a lighter tan belly, and short stubby legs. On his back he wore a small red backpack, always ready for adventures. Each morning he poked his tiny pink nose out and wiggled his little rounded ears. The world was wide and wonderful, and the little wombat wanted to see it all. 1
One sunny day, the little wombat packed his red backpack with a snack and a shiny pebble. He set off to explore the bush beyond his burrow. The grass was tall, and the air smelled of eucalyptus and warm earth. He hummed a happy tune as he walked, his small dark eyes bright with curiosity. Everything felt new and exciting, and he was brave enough to keep going. 2
Near a fallen log, the little wombat heard a soft rustling sound. Out from under the leaves came a spiky echidna with a long slender snout and a tiny yellow scarf around his neck. "Hello there," said the echidna, his small bright eyes twinkling. "I'm looking for someone to explore with." The wombat smiled. "I'm looking for a friend!" he said, and just like that, they were friends. 3
The two new friends wandered side by side, the wombat's round body waddling and the echidna's short sturdy legs trotting. They talked about their favorite foods and the places they had been. The echidna was clever and calm, and the wombat was curious and brave. They made a good team. "Let's see what's behind those bushes," said the wombat, and the echidna nodded happily. 4
Behind the bushes, they found a dark opening in the earth, half-hidden by ferns. It looked like a forgotten underground tunnel. Cool air drifted out, and the tunnel stretched away into the shadows. "Wow," whispered the wombat, his eyes wide. "Should we explore it?" The echidna tilted his long snout. "Together, we can be brave," he said. So they stepped inside, side by side. 5
At first, the tunnel was dark and strange. The walls were damp, and every little sound echoed. The wombat's short stubby legs trembled just a bit. "It's very dark in here," he said softly. The echidna stayed close and gave his paw a gentle squeeze. "I'm right here," he said. "We'll help each other." The wombat took a deep breath and felt a little braver. 6
They walked on, their footsteps soft on the cool earth. The echidna's small bright eyes spotted a narrow path branching off to the right. "Look here," he said. "This way might lead somewhere new." The wombat peeked around the corner, his tiny nose twitching. "Let's try it," he said. Hand in paw, they turned down the new path, curious about what they might find. 7
The new path twisted and turned, and soon they found a secret little room in the tunnel. Sparkling crystals dotted the walls, and a tiny stream trickled through the middle. "It's beautiful!" gasped the wombat. The echidna smiled, his yellow scarf bright in the dim light. "We found it because we were brave together," he said. They sat for a moment, listening to the gentle water and feeling proud. 8
After their rest, they explored further. The tunnel was full of surprises: a smooth stone shaped like a heart, a patch of glowing moss, and a tunnel that looped back on itself. The wombat's red backpack bumped along as he walked. "I'm not scared anymore," he said. "Me neither," said the echidna. "Because we're together." They laughed, and the dark tunnel felt a little friendlier. 9
They followed a draft of fresh air and found another opening, hidden behind a curtain of roots. Beyond it, the tunnel opened into a cozy den lined with dry grass and soft leaves. It was the perfect secret place. "This could be our hideout," said the wombat, his small dark eyes shining. The echidna nodded. "Our very own secret spot," he agreed. They decided to remember the way back. 10
As they sat in their new hideout, the wombat thought about how scared he had felt at first. Now the tunnel felt warm and welcoming, like a second home. "You know," he said to the echidna, "I was nervous when we started. But you helped me feel brave." The echidna smiled. "And you helped me explore," he said. "Friendship makes any place feel better." 11
They decided to explore one more path before heading back. This one was wide and smooth, and it led to a bubbling underground spring. The water was clear and cool, and it sang a soft song as it flowed. "Let's make a promise," said the echidna. "Let's always share our adventures." The wombat nodded eagerly. "Promise!" he said, and they shook paws in the glowing light. 12
With happy hearts, they followed the tunnel back toward the entrance. The dark walls no longer seemed strange; they felt like old friends. The wombat's round brown body waddled along, and the echidna's spiky quills brushed gently against the earth. "I can't wait to tell everyone about our secret place," said the wombat. "Me too," said the echidna, "but it's our special secret for now." 13
They stepped out of the tunnel into the warm sunshine. The bush smelled sweet, and the birds were singing. The little wombat looked back at the dark opening and smiled. "That tunnel felt scary at first," he said. "But now it feels like home." The echidna nodded. "That's what friendship does," he said. "It makes unfamiliar places welcoming." They sat together, happy and proud.
