Deep in the green rainforest lives Pip, a little tree shrew with soft reddish-brown fur, a pale cream belly, a long twitching snout and big dark eyes. While monkeys swing laughing through the branches and frogs splash in the stream, Pip sits alone with his slim tail curled around a twig, wishing he had a friend. To him the bright, busy forest feels empty and wide.
One morning a sunbird named Sunny zips past his nose, shimmering green and gold with a bright orange chest, and simply starts talking to him. When Pip admits he has no friend, Sunny declares that he does now. She coaxes the timid shrew to leap between the branches, and each jump makes him feel braver and lighter. Together they cross tangled vine bridges and slip beneath giant leaves until Sunny dives through a curtain of foliage and Pip follows, landing in a hidden orchard where the trees are heavy with fruit and flowers sparkle like tiny stars.
The story follows this new friendship through games of hide-and-seek, shared berries and nectar, and a quiet talk at sunset about how loneliness gave way to belonging. Young readers see a small, fearful animal discover courage by trying one small jump at a time, and they learn that friendship makes exploring more fun and fear easier to face. The gentle tale, suited to young children and to adults reading aloud, closes with Pip's happiness inspiring another forest creature to look for a friend of his own.

A Chapter from the Book
The Little Tree Shrew - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
Deep in the green rainforest, where leaves drip with rain and vines twist like ropes, lived a little tree shrew. He was small enough to sit in your hand, with soft reddish-brown fur and a pale cream belly. His long pointed snout twitched at every smell, and his big dark eyes looked out from the shadows. He had no one to play with, and his heart felt as quiet as the forest floor. 1
All day long, the little tree shrew watched the other animals. Monkeys swung from branch to branch, laughing. Frogs splashed in the stream. But the tree shrew stayed alone, his slim tail curled around a twig. "I wish I had a friend," he whispered. The rainforest was busy and bright, but for him, it felt empty and wide. 2
One morning, a flash of green and gold zipped past his nose. It was a sunbird, tiny and quick, with shimmering feathers and a bright orange chest. Her long curved beak dipped into a flower. "Hello down there!" she chirped. The tree shrew blinked his big dark eyes. "You can talk to me?" he asked. "Of course!" she said. "Why are you all alone?" 3
"I don't have a friend," said the little tree shrew softly. The sunbird tilted her round black head. "Well, now you do!" she sang. "My name is Sunny. What's yours?" He told her his name was Pip. Sunny fluttered closer. "Come explore with me!" But Pip looked at the tall trees and felt scared. "I can't climb that high," he said. 4
Sunny wasn't worried. "I'll show you how to fly between the branches!" she said. She flitted to a low branch and back. "Just jump and stretch!" Pip took a deep breath. He wiggled his tiny paws and leaped. For a moment, he sailed through the air. Then he landed on the next branch with a soft thump. "I did it!" he squeaked. 5
The little tree shrew's heart beat fast with excitement. Sunny cheered, her iridescent wings sparkling. "Now try a little higher!" she urged. Pip climbed and jumped, climbed and jumped. His long slim tail helped him balance. Each leap felt easier. The rainforest opened up around him like a green puzzle. He had never felt so brave or so light. 6
They traveled through the treetops together. Sunny flew ahead, and Pip followed close behind. They crossed a bridge of tangled vines and slipped under giant leaves. "Where are we going?" Pip asked. "You'll see!" Sunny sang. The air grew warm and sweet. Pip's pointed snout twitched. Something wonderful was nearby. 7
Suddenly, Sunny dived through a curtain of leaves. Pip hesitated, then jumped after her. He landed on a soft, mossy branch. When he looked up, his big dark eyes grew wide. Hidden among the rainforest branches was a magical orchard. The trees were heavy with fruit, and flowers sparkled like tiny stars. It was the most beautiful place he had ever seen. 8
"Welcome to the secret orchard!" Sunny chirped. Pip stared and stared. There were round orange fruits, purple berries, and flowers that glittered in the sun. "Is it really real?" he whispered. "It's real," said Sunny. "But only friends can find it." Pip felt a warm glow inside. He had never imagined such a place existed. 9
The two friends explored the magical orchard. Pip sniffed the sweet fruit and tasted a juicy berry. Sunny sipped nectar from a sparkling flower. They played hide-and-seek among the branches. Pip's slim tail wrapped around a twig as he peeked out. Sunny's bright orange chest flashed between the leaves. They laughed and chirped and had the best time. 10
As the sun began to set, Pip sat on a branch beside Sunny. "I used to feel so lonely," he said. "But now I have you." Sunny nuzzled his cheek with her curved beak. "And I have you," she said. "Friendship makes everything better." Pip looked at the sparkling orchard and knew she was right. He felt brave and happy and full. 11
From that day on, Pip was never lonely again. He and Sunny met every morning in the treetops. They explored new branches and found new wonders. Pip learned that the rainforest was full of surprises. And with a friend by his side, he was never afraid to try. His long tail swished with joy as he leaped from branch to branch. 12
Other animals noticed the little tree shrew's happy face. "How did you become so brave?" asked a young frog. Pip smiled. "My friend Sunny showed me," he said. "Exploring is more fun with a friend." The frog hopped along, thinking about finding a friend too. Pip and Sunny chirped together, glad to share their secret. 13
One evening, Pip and Sunny sat in the magical orchard. The sparkling flowers glowed softly. "We found this place together," Pip said. "I never could have found it alone." Sunny nodded. "That's what friends are for," she said. They shared a sweet berry and watched the fireflies dance. The orchard felt like home now, warm and safe and full of light. 14
The little tree shrew had learned something important. The rainforest was big, but with a friend, it felt like a wonderful adventure. He no longer hid in the shadows. He jumped and climbed and explored with Sunny every day. And whenever he felt a little scared, he remembered her cheerful chirp and took a brave leap.
