In a sunny forest clearing, a small quokka with golden-brown fur wakes up eager for adventure. When he spots a trail of strange footprints pressed into the soft dirt outside his burrow, his curiosity takes over and he follows them through ferns and around rocks until he finds a shy bandicoot named Bandi hiding behind a bush. Bandi made the prints while searching for a hidden garden he has heard about, but he is too nervous to look for it alone. Quokka offers to go with him, and together the two set off along the trail.

The path leads them through tall grass and low branches until it stops at a thick wall of vines. Quokka notices a small gap and pushes through, encouraging Bandi to follow, and on the other side they discover a secret path lined with tiny blue flowers. The path opens onto the hidden garden itself, full of colorful blooms, a shimmering pond and floating butterflies. The two friends explore it together, picking ruby-red berries, touching a ticklish flower and chasing butterflies until the sun begins to set.

The story shows young readers how friendship can help a shy child find courage they already had, and how shared discoveries become more meaningful than solitary ones. It is a gentle tale suited to early readers and to adults reading aloud, with simple language, warm descriptions of the forest and a clear message about kindness, curiosity and companionship.

The Little Quokka's Friend - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

In a sunny forest clearing, a little quokka woke up with a big yawn. His golden-brown fur glowed in the morning light, and his cream belly felt warm. He wiggled his tiny ears and sniffed the air. "What a perfect day for an adventure!" he chirped. His round dark eyes sparkled with curiosity. He was small, but his brave heart was big. 1

The little quokka hopped outside his cozy burrow. The grass was soft under his small feet. He loved his home, with its tall trees and sweet flowers. But today, something new caught his eye. "Ooh, what's that?" he wondered, tilting his head. A trail of strange footprints led away from his door, pressed into the soft dirt. 2

The quokka bent down to look closer. The footprints were small and neat, with long toes. "Who made these?" he asked aloud. His little black nose twitched. He had never seen prints like these before. They looked mysterious and exciting. "I must find out!" he decided, and his happy smile grew even wider. 3

With a hop and a skip, the little quokka followed the footprints. They wound through the ferns and around a big rock. The quokka's short tail wiggled with excitement. "Hello?" he called softly. "Is anyone there?" But only the birds answered with a cheerful song. The footprints kept going, and so did he. 4

Soon the quokka heard a tiny rustle behind a bush. He peeked around and saw a shy bandicoot hiding there. The bandicoot had soft sandy-brown fur with darker stripes on his back. His long snout twitched, and his thin whiskers quivered. "Hello," the quokka said gently. "Did you make these footprints?" The bandicoot nodded, his wide eyes nervous. 5

"I'm sorry if I scared you," the quokka said with a warm smile. "I'm just curious about your footprints. They're so interesting!" The bandicoot peeked out a little more. "I'm... I'm Bandi," he whispered. "I was looking for something." The quokka's eyes lit up. "What are you looking for? Maybe I can help!" Bandi hesitated, then gave a small smile. 6

Bandi pointed his long snout toward the trail. "I heard about a hidden garden," he said softly. "Full of flowers and surprises. But I'm not brave enough to go alone." The quokka bounced on his toes. "Then we'll go together!" he cheered. "I'm Quokka, and I love adventures!" Bandi's shy eyes grew a little brighter. "Really? You'd come with me?" 7

So the two new friends followed the footprints side by side. Quokka hopped ahead, while Bandi stepped carefully with his long legs. The trail led them through tall grass and under low branches. "Look, the prints are getting clearer!" Quokka said. Bandi nodded. "I think we're close," he whispered. They walked on, their hearts beating with excitement. 8

Suddenly, the footprints stopped at a thick wall of vines. "Oh no," Bandi said. "It's a dead end." But Quokka tilted his head. "Wait, I see a little gap!" he said. He pushed the vines aside with his small paws. "Come on, Bandi! We can squeeze through!" Bandi took a deep breath and followed. "You're very brave," he said. Quokka grinned. "We both are!" 9

On the other side, they found a secret path. It was lined with tiny blue flowers that sparkled like stars. "Wow!" Bandi gasped. "I've never seen anything so pretty." Quokka nodded, his round eyes wide. "And we found it together!" They followed the path as it curved around a mossy log. The air smelled sweet, and the sunlight danced through the leaves. 10

Then the path opened up, and they both stopped in awe. There was the hidden garden! Flowers of every color bloomed in neat little beds. A small pond shimmered in the middle, and butterflies floated on the breeze. "It's beautiful!" Bandi whispered. Quokka spun around happily. "We did it! We found the garden!" They stood together, taking it all in. 11

Bandi stepped forward carefully. "I never would have found this without you," he said. "You made me brave." Quokka shook his head. "No, you were brave all along. You just needed a friend to walk with." Bandi's shy smile grew into a real one. "Then let's explore it together!" They ran into the garden, laughing and pointing at all the surprises. 12

They found a bush with berries as red as rubies. Bandi showed Quokka how to pick them gently. They found a flower that closed when they touched it. "It's ticklish!" Quokka giggled. Bandi laughed too. They chased butterflies and counted ladybugs. The garden was full of wonders, and every discovery was more fun because they shared it. 13

As the sun began to set, Quokka and Bandi sat by the pond. "I'm so glad I followed your footprints," Quokka said. "Me too," Bandi replied. "I was scared at first, but you made me feel safe." They watched the sky turn pink and orange. "Friendship is the best adventure of all," Quokka said softly. Bandi nodded, his heart full. 14

On the way home, they marked the path with small stones so they could find the garden again. "We'll come back tomorrow," Bandi said. "And maybe every day," Quokka added. They hopped and stepped side by side, tired but happy. The forest felt like home now, full of new friends and shared secrets. "Best day ever," Quokka sighed.
