🎧 Listen to the Story · 6:58

High in the warm, sweet-smelling rainforest lives a little kinkajou with soft golden-brown fur, a cream-coloured belly and the roundest dark brown eyes. Every night, when the stars peek through the leaves, he sets off to climb and explore, leaping from branch to branch with his long curly tail for balance. He is curious about everything the forest hides and wants to discover all its secrets.

One night a soft rustle leads him to a night monkey with a pale cream face and enormous amber eyes that shine in the dark. She knows the trees well and offers to lead the way. Together they climb higher and higher, past ferns that tickle their noses and mushrooms that glow faintly, until they spot tiny specks of light far off among the leaves. The two new friends set out to find out what the lights are, and what they discover at the top of a tall tree is more wonderful than either of them expected.

The Little Kinkajou is a gentle bedtime story about curiosity, teamwork and the joy of sharing a discovery. Young readers follow the two animals as they help each other through the dark forest, notice how the night monkey's big eyes help her see and how the kinkajou's tail keeps him steady, and learn that an adventure feels more exciting when it is shared with a friend. The warm, simple language and the softly glowing setting make it well suited to being read aloud to younger children or read alone by children who are just beginning to enjoy longer stories.

The Little Kinkajou - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

High in the rainforest, where the leaves whisper and the air is warm and sweet, lived a little kinkajou. He had soft goldenbrown fur, a cream-coloured belly, and the biggest, roundest dark brown eyes you ever saw. His long curly tail helped him swing from branch to branch. Every night, when the stars peeked through the leaves, he set off to explore. 1

The little kinkajou loved to climb. Up and up he went, his tiny pink nose twitching at every new smell. He leaped from tree to tree, his nimble paws gripping the bark. "What will I find tonight?" he wondered. The rainforest was full of secrets, and he wanted to discover them all. 2

One night, as he balanced on a vine, he heard a soft rustle. Out of the shadows stepped a night monkey. She had grey-brown fur, a pale cream face, and enormous amber eyes that shone in the dark. "Hello," she said gently. "I'm a night monkey. I've never seen you here before." The kinkajou smiled. "I'm exploring!" he said. "Would you like to come?" 3

The night monkey nodded. "I know these trees well," she said. "Follow me!" She led the way through the dark forest, her long thin tail swishing behind her. The little kinkajou followed close, his heart thumping with excitement. They passed ferns that tickled their noses and mushrooms that glowed faintly. "Where are we going?" asked the kinkajou. "You'll see," she whispered. 4

They climbed higher and higher, past branches draped with moss. The night monkey moved gracefully, her slender fingers and toes gripping the bark. The little kinkajou scrambled after her, his curly tail curling around a branch for balance. "You're a good climber," she said. "So are you!" he replied. "Your eyes are so big and bright!" "They help me see in the dark," she explained. 5

At the top of a tall tree, they stopped to rest. The night monkey pointed to a distant tree. "Look," she said. The little kinkajou peered through the leaves. Far away, something was glowing. Tiny specks of light twinkled in the darkness, like stars fallen into the forest. "What is that?" he breathed. "I don't know," she said, "but I've always wanted to find out." 6

They set off again, leaping from branch to branch. The glowing lights grew brighter. The kinkajou could see flowers now, big and round, shining with a soft, warm light. "They're beautiful!" he gasped. The night monkey's amber eyes widened. "I've never seen anything like it," she said. "Let's get closer!" They hurried toward the wonderful tree. 7

As they neared the tree, the light grew stronger. The flowers were like tiny lanterns, glowing in shades of blue, green, and pink. "Wow!" said the little kinkajou. "It's magic!" The night monkey laughed. "Maybe it's just nature's magic," she said. "Either way, it's wonderful." They landed on a branch covered in glowing blossoms and looked around in awe. 8

The tree was filled with flowers, each one shining like a tiny light. The little kinkajou reached out a paw and touched a petal. It felt soft and warm. "They're glowing!" he said. "How do they do that?" The night monkey shrugged. "I don't know," she said, "but I'm glad we found them." They sat together, surrounded by the gentle glow, and felt happy. 9

The two friends began to play among the bright blossoms. They chased each other around the branches, laughing as the lights twinkled around them. The kinkajou's curly tail wrapped around a flower, making it swing. The night monkey leaped from one glowing bloom to another. "This is the best adventure ever!" cried the kinkajou. "And we found it together!" said the night monkey. 10

After a while, they rested on a soft bed of moss. The glowing flowers cast a warm light on their faces. "I'm so glad I met you," said the little kinkajou. "Me too," said the night monkey. "Exploring is more fun with a friend." The kinkajou nodded. "With you beside me, every adventure feels exciting and new." They smiled at each other, their eyes shining in the flower light. 11

The night monkey pointed to another tree in the distance. "See those lights?" she said. "Maybe there are more glowing flowers over there." The kinkajou's eyes grew wide. "Let's go see!" he said. But first, they picked two small glowing flowers and tucked them behind their ears. "Now we'll always remember this night," said the night monkey. "And we'll always be friends," said the kinkajou. 12

They climbed down from the glowing tree and set off toward the new lights. The forest seemed friendlier now, full of soft shadows and gentle sounds. The kinkajou didn't feel scared at all. With his friend beside him, he felt brave and happy. "I used to explore alone," he said. "But now I like exploring with you." The night monkey smiled. "Friendship makes everything better," she said. 13

As they traveled, they found more glowing flowers, scattered like tiny stars. They played until the sky began to lighten. "The sun is coming," said the night monkey. "I should go home to sleep." The kinkajou nodded. "I'll walk you to your tree," he said. They said goodnight, and the kinkajou promised to meet her again the next night. "We'll have more adventures!" he said. 14

Back in his own tree, the little kinkajou curled up in his nest. He touched the glowing flower behind his ear and smiled. He thought about the night monkey and the wonderful tree. He had learned that sharing an adventure with a friend made it twice as special.
