In a sparkling blue sea, a cheerful dolphin named Splash loves to leap through the waves and explore every wonder the ocean offers. One morning Splash swims farther than ever before and discovers a hidden reef glowing with pink, purple and gold coral, where tiny fish dart about like living rainbows. Behind a tall coral tower, a shy little octopus named Inky creeps out from behind a rock, its eight tentacles wiggling nervously and a small shell puzzle piece held in one arm. Although Inky admits it is not very brave, Splash offers to be brave enough for both of them, and the two new friends set off together.

Their exploring leads them to a thick wall of twisted seaweed known as the maze, which hides the way home but opens only for those who can solve it. Splash contributes a good memory for patterns, recalling that the coral on the left was pink and on the right purple, while Inky proves clever at puzzles, sliding a blue stone into place to reveal a hidden door. In the dark, swirling sand of the next chamber, Splash uses echolocation to find a tunnel while Inky follows the sound of her voice. A wall of pictured shells calls for Inky's matching skills, and a wide gap in the path is crossed by Splash's jumping and Inky's stretching tentacles.

The story is written for young children and for anyone reading aloud to them. Through Splash and Inky it shows how friendship grows when two very different creatures combine their strengths, how courage can be borrowed from a friend, and how patience and cooperation help solve problems that would defeat either one alone. The gentle underwater setting, warm colors and simple puzzle adventures make it an inviting tale about trust and teamwork.

The Dolphin's Octopus Friend - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

Once upon a time, in a sparkling blue sea, there lived a cheerful dolphin named Splash. Splash had a sky-blue back that faded to a soft white belly, and large friendly dark eyes that always seemed to smile. Every morning, Splash loved to leap and flip through the waves, chattering happily to the seagulls. The ocean was full of wonders, and Splash wanted to explore every single one. 1

One day, Splash swam farther than ever before and discovered a hidden reef. The coral glowed with colors Splash had never seen—pink, purple, and shimmering gold. Tiny fish darted in and out like living rainbows. "Wow!" Splash squealed, doing a happy loop. "This must be an enchanted reef!" The water felt warm and magical, and Splash knew this was the start of a wonderful adventure. 2

As Splash peeked around a tall coral tower, a small voice whispered, "Hello?" Out from behind a rock crept a shy octopus. It was about the size of a football, with soft coral-pink skin covered in tiny lighter freckles. Its eight curling tentacles wiggled nervously, and its big round amber eyes blinked at Splash. "I'm Inky," it said softly, holding a small shell puzzle piece in one tentacle. 3

Splash smiled warmly. "Hi, Inky! I'm Splash. Do you live here?" Inky nodded shyly. "Yes, but I don't go out much. I'm not very brave." Splash flicked a flipper. "That's okay! I'm brave enough for both of us. Want to explore together?" Inky's amber eyes lit up, and it tucked the shell puzzle piece into a safe spot. "I'd like that," it said, and the two new friends set off. 4

They swam past swaying sea fans and schools of silver fish. Inky pointed out tiny crabs hiding in the sand, and Splash showed Inky how to blow bubble rings. "You're good at finding things," Splash said. "And you're good at making me laugh," Inky replied. They were having so much fun that they didn't notice how far they had gone. Soon, the reef around them looked strange and unfamiliar. 5

Suddenly, a thick wall of twisted seaweed blocked their path. It stretched high and wide, with no way around. "Oh no," Inky whispered. "This is the maze. I've heard about it. It's very tricky, and it leads to the way home—but only if you can solve it." Splash looked at the tangled seaweed. "Then we'll solve it together!" Splash said. "I'm good at remembering, and you're good at puzzles." 6

Splash closed her eyes and thought hard. "I remember seeing a pattern in the reef," she said. "The coral on the left was bright pink, and on the right it was purple. Let's start by going left." Inky's tentacles curled with excitement. "That's a great clue!" they said. "But wait—look at these little stones. They're arranged like arrows pointing right. Maybe it's a puzzle." 7

Inky studied the stones carefully. "If we move the blue stone to the middle, it might open a path," they said. Inky used a tentacle to gently slide the stone. A soft click echoed, and a hidden door in the seaweed swung open. "You did it!" Splash cheered. Inky blushed a deeper pink. "Your memory helped," they said. "Now let's keep going." 8

The next room of the maze was dark and filled with swirling sand. "I can't see!" Inky cried. Splash remembered a trick. "I can use echolocation to find the way!" Splash sent out a series of clicks, and the echoes painted a picture in her mind. "There's a tunnel to the right," she said. "Follow my voice." Inky held onto Splash's flipper, and they swam through safely. 9

On the other side, they found a wall covered in shells. Each shell had a tiny picture on it. "It's a matching puzzle," Inky said. "We need to pair the shells that look alike." Inky's clever eyes scanned the wall, and with a few quick moves of their tentacles, they matched every shell. The wall slid away, revealing a long, twisting path. "One more step," Splash said. "We're getting close!" 10

But then they reached a wide gap in the path. "How do we cross?" Inky asked. Splash looked around and remembered a game she used to play. "I can jump across!" she said. "But what about you?" Inky thought for a moment. "I can stretch my tentacles and pull myself along the walls," they said. "Let's go together." Splash leaped, and Inky stretched, and they both made it to the other side. 11

Finally, they saw a shimmering light ahead. "That's the way out!" Splash shouted. They swam toward it, but a giant clam blocked the exit. "Only those who share a memory can pass," the clam said in a deep voice. Splash and Inky looked at each other. "We shared the memory of meeting," Inky said. "And the memory of laughing together," Splash added. The clam smiled and opened wide. 12

They swam through the exit and found themselves back in the familiar reef. "We did it!" Inky shouted, spinning with joy. Splash did a flip. "We couldn't have done it alone. Your clever thinking saved us!" Inky hugged Splash with all eight arms. "And your memory did too!" The reef creatures cheered, and the two friends knew they would always be best friends. 13

From that day on, Splash and Inky were inseparable. They explored the enchanted reef together, solving every puzzle they found. Splash learned that being clever isn't just about remembering—it's also about thinking in new ways. Inky learned that being brave is easier with a friend by your side. They made a perfect team.
