The World of Friends

The World of Friends

Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

Amelia discovers a little wooden door beneath an old oak tree and steps through it into the World of Friends, a land of green valleys and bright flowers. There she meets Pip the capybara, who explains that the pathways connecting the valleys are fading because the creatures have forgotten how to listen to one another. Kindness and respect, he says, are what keep the pathways strong. Amelia decides to help restore them, and a small group of animal companions joins her.

Together the friends travel through a rainforest, over rocky mountains, across a hot desert and into an enchanted ocean. Each animal contributes something different: Pip's calm sense of direction, Rusty the red panda's climbing skill, the elephant's strength, Shellby the sea turtle's wisdom and the puffin's cheerfulness. As they mend one broken pathway after another, Amelia uses her own kindness to bring shy animals out of hiding, and word spreads until creatures from every valley come to help.

The story follows their patient teamwork as they repair the great central pathway and plan a yearly Friendship Celebration. Young readers learn that friendship is built on kindness, respect and understanding those who are different, and that bonds between people never truly vanish if we keep them in our hearts. The gentle, episodic adventure suits children in the early primary years, whether read aloud or read alone.

The World of Friends - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

Amelia found a little wooden door beneath an old oak tree. It was just her size, with a tiny brass handle. When she turned it, the door opened into a world of green valleys and bright flowers. "Hello?" she whispered, stepping through. A gentle capybara with a grass satchel looked up and smiled. "Welcome, Amelia," he said. "We've been waiting for someone kind." 1

Pip the capybara led Amelia to a clearing where animals from everywhere gathered. A red panda in a blue scarf waved from a branch. A huge sea turtle with a shell necklace nodded wisely. An elephant trumpeted softly, and a puffin flapped its wings. "This is the World of Friends," Pip said. "But our friendship pathways are disappearing, and the valleys are getting cut off." 2

Amelia looked around. The pathways were faint, like chalk lines washing away in the rain. "Why are they vanishing?" she asked. Shellby the sea turtle sighed. "Because creatures forgot how to listen to each other. Kindness and respect keep the pathways strong." Amelia touched her compass charm. "Then we'll bring them back," she said. "Together." 3

Their first journey was through the rainforest. Thick vines and giant leaves blocked the way. Pip calmly found a safe river route, his round body gliding through the water. "Follow me," he said. "The river remembers the old paths." Amelia paddled behind him, and the others followed. Soon they found the first broken pathway and mended it with teamwork. 4

Next came the mountains, tall and rocky. Rusty the red panda scampered up the cliffs, his ringed tail balancing him. "I can scout ahead!" he called. He found a hidden ledge that led to a second pathway. "My small size helps," he said proudly. Amelia cheered. "You're brave and clever, Rusty!" The pathway glowed as they crossed it together. 5

In the desert, the sun was hot and the sand was soft. The elephant sprayed water from a nearby oasis, cooling everyone down. "My trunk can reach far," she said. She cleared a path through the dunes, revealing a third pathway buried in the sand. "Thank you," said Amelia. "Your strength helps us all." The pathway shimmered and held strong. 6

Then they reached the enchanted ocean. Waves sparkled like diamonds. Shellby the sea turtle swam slowly, his huge shell like a boat. "Climb on," he said. "I know the old stories of the deep." He led them to a pathway under the sea, where fish and whales watched curiously. "Trust each other," Shellby said, "and the way will open." 7

But the biggest pathway was still broken, right in the middle of the world. It was wide and dark, and nobody knew how to fix it. "We need everyone's help," said Amelia. "Pip, your calmness. Rusty, your climbing. Shellby, your wisdom. Elephant, your strength. Puffin, your cheer." They all nodded. "Teamwork," said Pip, "is the key." 8

They worked together for days. Rusty climbed high to tie ropes. Pip found seeds to plant along the edges. The elephant carried heavy stones. Shellby told stories to keep their spirits up. The puffin flew messages between valleys. Amelia used her kindness to bring shy animals out of hiding. Slowly, the pathway began to glow again. 9

Animals from every valley came to help. Monkeys wove vines. Birds sang encouragement. Rabbits dug small channels for water. "We forgot how to be friends," said a fox. "But you reminded us." Amelia smiled. "Friendship is built on kindness and respect," she said. "And on understanding those who are different." The pathway grew brighter with every helping hand. 10

At last, the great pathway was whole again, shining like a river of light. All the valleys were connected. "We did it!" cheered Rusty. Shellby nodded wisely. "You see, little one," he said to Amelia, "friendship pathways never truly vanish if we keep them in our hearts." Amelia hugged each friend. "I'll never forget this world," she said. 11

The animals decided to celebrate. They planned a grand yearly festival of friendship. "We'll call it the Friendship Celebration," said Pip. "Everyone will come from every habitat." They decorated the pathways with flowers and shells. The elephant trumpeted joyfully. The puffin danced in the air. Amelia laughed with delight. "This is the best day ever!" 12

On the day of the celebration, creatures from rainforests, mountains, deserts, and oceans gathered. They shared food and stories. They played games and sang songs. Amelia taught them a song about kindness. "When we listen and care," she sang, "the world becomes one." Everyone joined in, their voices rising together under the bright sky. 13

Amelia knew she had to go home, but she promised to return every year. "The door will always be open for you," said Shellby. Pip gave her a seed from his satchel. "Plant this," he said. "It will remind you of us." Rusty tied a tiny blue thread around her wrist. "Friends forever," he said. Amelia's eyes sparkled with happy tears. 14

Back home, Amelia planted the seed under the old oak tree. It grew into a beautiful flower with petals of every color. She told her family about the World of Friends, and they listened with wonder. "Friendship is a magical doorway," she said. "It opens when you're kind and respectful." And she smiled, thinking of her friends far away. 15

Every year, Amelia returns to the World of Friends for the grand celebration. She brings new friends from her world, and they all join the animals in the joyful festival. The pathways shine brighter than ever, kept strong by kindness, respect, and teamwork.
