The Little Whale's Compass - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
Once upon a time, in the big blue ocean, there lived a little whale named Pip. Pip was small for a whale, about the length of a rowboat. He had a deep blue back, a soft white belly, and big round friendly eyes. Around his neck hung a tiny compass made of woven seaweed on a thin kelp cord. Pip loved to explore, but sometimes the ocean felt very, very big. 1
One sunny morning, Pip was swimming near the surface when he heard a cheerful click-click-click. A young dolphin named Dot zoomed up beside him, her silver grey skin shining. She had a long smiling beak, bright teal green eyes, and a coral pink shell bracelet on one flipper. 'Hello!' she chirped. 'I'm Dot. Want to race?' Pip puffed a heart-shaped spout and giggled. 'I'm Pip! I'd love to!' 2
From that day on, Pip and Dot were best friends. They played hide-and-seek in the coral and chased bubbles together. Dot was quick and clever, and Pip was gentle and hopeful. They made a great team. One evening, as the sun set like a big orange pearl, Dot pointed her beak toward the east. 'I've heard about a magical ocean current,' she said. 'It leads to a hidden island. Want to go?' Pip's big eyes sparkled. 'Yes!' 3
The next morning, they set off. Pip wore his seaweed compass, and Dot wore her shell bracelet. They swam for hours, past swaying kelp and sleepy sea turtles. But the ocean was huge, and Pip began to feel tired. 'Are we lost?' he asked. Dot smiled. 'Not yet! Let's look for the current.' Just then, Pip noticed a shimmering ribbon of water, sparkling like tiny stars. 'There it is!' he shouted. 4
The magical current was warm and fast, like a river in the sea. It pulled them gently along, and Pip's heart felt light. 'This is fun!' he cheered. Dot flipped and spun. 'I told you!' But soon, a thick patch of seaweed blocked their way. Pip's fins got tangled. 'Help!' he called. Dot quickly nibbled the seaweed away. 'Friends help friends,' she said. Pip smiled. 'Thank you, Dot.' 5
They swam on, following the sparkling current. Pip's little blowhole puffed heart-shaped spouts whenever he was happy. Dot's teal eyes twinkled as she spotted a school of flying fish. 'Look!' she cried. The fish leaped and glided over the waves, silver and bright. Pip laughed. 'I wish I could fly!' Dot said, 'You don't need to fly. You have me to show you the way.' 6
As they traveled, the sky grew dark and the wind blew cold. Big waves rocked Pip from side to side. He felt scared. 'Maybe we should turn back,' he whispered. Dot swam close and touched her fin to his. 'We've come so far. Let's keep going together. I'll stay right beside you.' Pip took a deep breath and nodded. With Dot near, the waves didn't seem so big. 7
The next day, they met a grumpy old sea turtle named Tuck. 'You're going the wrong way!' he grumbled. 'The current splits ahead. You need to choose the right path.' Pip looked at his seaweed compass. The needle wobbled, then pointed left. 'This way!' he said. Dot cheered. 'Good job, Pip!' They thanked Tuck and swam on, feeling proud. 8
The left path was narrow and rocky. Pip's big size made it hard to squeeze through. 'I can't fit!' he worried. Dot zoomed ahead and found a wider opening. 'Follow me!' she called. She guided Pip through a tunnel of coral, and they popped out into open water. 'You did it!' Dot said. Pip's eyes shone. 'We did it!' 9
They rode the current for days, past flying fish and glowing jellyfish. Pip's compass stayed steady, and Dot's smile never faded. They told stories and sang silly songs. 'This journey is the best!' said Pip. Dot agreed. 'And it's not over yet!' Then, far ahead, they saw a green dot on the horizon. 'Is that the island?' Pip asked. Dot squinted. 'It might be! Let's hurry!' 10
But as they got closer, a thick fog rolled in. Pip couldn't see anything. 'Dot? Where are you?' he called. 'I'm here!' she answered, but her voice sounded far away. Pip felt a lump in his throat. Then he remembered his compass. He looked down. The needle glowed softly, pointing forward. 'Dot! Follow my voice!' he shouted. 'I'll follow the compass!' Dot swam toward him, and soon they were side by side again. 11
The fog lifted, and there it was: a beautiful hidden island with palm trees and a waterfall. 'We found it!' they shouted together. They swam into a cozy lagoon and danced in the water. 'We did it because we helped each other,' said Pip. Dot nodded. 'And because we never gave up.' They celebrated with happy flips and heart-shaped spouts. 12
On the island, they met friendly crabs and singing birds. They explored caves and collected shiny pebbles. Pip gave Dot a pearl he found, and Dot gave Pip a flower. 'Friendship is the best treasure,' said Dot. Pip agreed. 'And our journey made it even stronger.' They promised to always be there for each other, no matter how long the trip. 13
When it was time to go home, Pip and Dot followed the current back, this time with happy hearts. They knew the way, and they knew they had each other. The ocean didn't seem so big anymore. 'Thank you for being my friend,' said Pip. Dot smiled. 'Thank you for being mine.' And they swam home together, side by side.
