The Little Weasel

🎧 Listen to the Story · 7:10

Little Weasel loves to explore, and one sunny morning his curiosity leads him to a meadow he has never seen before. There he meets a tiny field vole with russet-brown fur, a pale grey face and a woven grass bracelet with a single blue bead. The vole is shy and freezes when he greets her, then scurries away. Instead of chasing her, Little Weasel sits down and waits, and his patience is rewarded when she peeks out from behind a clover and whispers her name: Vole.

Vole leads him to a hidden corner of the meadow where an old playground lies tangled in weeds, its slide rusty, its swings still and its merry-go-round stuck. Together the two small animals pull weeds, weave new swing ropes from vines, push the merry-go-round until it turns and polish the slide until it shines. As they work, Vole's golden sparkles glow brighter whenever she feels happy, and she discovers that she likes helping. Soon a rabbit, a hedgehog and two squirrels ask to join in, and Little Weasel makes sure everyone gets a turn.

This gentle children's tale is about making friends, keeping patience with shy newcomers, sharing what you have and playing fair. Young readers learn that kindness and cooperation can bring a forgotten place back to life, and that trust grows from small acts of generosity. It suits children at the picture-book and early-reader stage, and adults looking for a calm bedtime story about friendship and inclusion.

The Little Weasel - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

Little Weasel loved to explore. His soft caramel-brown fur and cream belly slipped through the tall grass. His big round amber eyes sparkled. One sunny morning, he found a meadow he had never seen before. Flowers nodded, and butterflies danced. 'What a perfect place for an adventure!' he squeaked. He pulled his red neckerchief tight and scampered in. 1

In the middle of the meadow sat a tiny field vole. She had russet-brown fur, a pale grey face, and large dark eyes. Golden sparkles twinkled around her paws. She wore a woven grass bracelet with a single blue bead. When she saw the weasel, she froze. 'Hello!' said Little Weasel. 'I'm new here. What's your name?' The vole said nothing. 2

The field vole turned and scurried away. Little Weasel didn't chase her. He sat down and waited. Soon, the vole peeked from behind a clover. Her sparkles glowed softly. 'I'm shy,' she whispered. 'That's okay,' said Little Weasel. 'I can be quiet too.' He smiled his warmest smile. The vole crept a little closer. 'I'm Vole,' she said. 3

Vole led Little Weasel to a hidden corner of the meadow. 'Look,' she said. There stood an old playground, all tangled in weeds. The slide was rusty, the swings were still, and the merry-go-round was stuck. 'It's forgotten,' Vole sighed. 'No one plays here anymore.' Little Weasel's eyes grew wide. 'We can fix it!' he said. 4

Vole looked at the playground and then at Little Weasel. 'Why would you help?' she asked. 'Because it's fun to play,' said Little Weasel. 'And because friends help each other.' He tugged at a stubborn weed. Vole watched his small paws work. Her sparkles flickered. 'Maybe I can help too,' she said softly. She pulled a weed beside him. 5

They worked all morning. Little Weasel pulled weeds and Vole used her sparkles to lift them away. 'Your sparkles are amazing!' said Little Weasel. Vole blushed. 'They only work when I'm happy,' she said. Little Weasel shared his water bottle. 'Here, have some,' he said. Vole took a sip. Her sparkles glowed a little brighter. She smiled for the first time. 6

Next, they fixed the swings. Little Weasel found some strong vines. 'Can you tie them?' he asked Vole. She nodded and wove the vines together. Her paws sparkled as she worked. 'You're good at this!' said Little Weasel. Vole's dark eyes shone. 'I like helping,' she said. They hung the swings side by side. 'Now we can push each other,' said Little Weasel. 7

They pushed the merry-go-round. It creaked and groaned. 'It's stuck,' said Vole. 'Let's try together,' said Little Weasel. They pushed and pushed. 'One, two, three, go!' they shouted. Slowly, the merry-go-round began to turn. Vole laughed. 'We did it!' she cheered. Her golden sparkles swirled around them. They spun until they were dizzy. 8

Then they cleaned the slide. Little Weasel rubbed the rust with a smooth stone. Vole polished it with her sparkles. 'It's shiny!' said Little Weasel. 'Now it's safe to slide,' said Vole. 'You go first,' said Little Weasel. 'No, you,' said Vole. 'Let's go together,' said Little Weasel. They climbed up and slid down side by side, laughing all the way. 9

Soon, other animals came to see. A rabbit, a hedgehog, and two squirrels peeked from the grass. 'Can we play too?' asked the rabbit. Little Weasel said, 'Of course! There's room for everyone.' Vole felt nervous. But Little Weasel took her paw. 'You can show them the merry-go-round,' he said. Vole smiled and led the way. 10

The playground was busy! The rabbit pushed the swings. The squirrels spun on the merry-go-round. The hedgehog slid down the slide. Little Weasel made sure everyone had a turn. 'You can go next,' he said to the hedgehog. 'And then you,' he said to the rabbit. Vole watched him share and help. Her sparkles glowed brighter than ever. She began to trust him. 11

When it was time for a snack, Little Weasel shared his berries with everyone. He gave the biggest berry to Vole. 'Thank you,' she whispered. 'You're kind.' Little Weasel smiled. 'You're kind too,' he said. 'You fixed the playground with your sparkles.' Vole looked around at all the happy animals. 'I guess I am,' she said. Her blue bead twinkled. 12

The sun began to set. The animals said good-bye. 'Come back tomorrow!' called Little Weasel. Vole stayed behind. 'I was scared of you at first,' she said. 'Why?' asked Little Weasel. 'Because you were new,' said Vole. 'But you shared, and you helped, and you played fair.' She took his paw. 'You're my friend now,' she said. Little Weasel's heart felt warm. 13

The next day, the playground was even busier. Word had spread. Birds sang from the swing set. A family of mice giggled on the slide. Little Weasel and Vole stood together, watching. 'We did it,' said Vole. 'We did it together,' said Little Weasel. Vole's sparkles danced in the sunshine. She didn't hide them anymore. She was proud of them. 14

From that day on, the meadow playground was never quiet. Little Weasel and Vole played there every day. They shared their toys. They took turns. They helped anyone who needed it. Other animals learned from them. The playground became the happiest place in the meadow. And it all started with a little weasel and a magical field vole.
