In a soft green valley where wildflowers nod in the breeze, a little unicorn named Lily lives with her pearly white coat, pastel rainbow mane and a slim lavender ribbon dancing at the end of her tail. Every day she trots past a magical orchard whose trees shimmer with golden light, longing to see what lies behind the fence. One sunny morning she meets Ben, a warm grey donkey with long soft ears and a straw collar holding a tiny red flower, and together they step through the gate to explore.
Inside the glowing orchard, Lily and Ben discover shining pears, sweet berries and peaches that drop into Ben's basket, each helping in their own way. Watching from above, a small owl in round spectacles and a rabbit in a leaf cape wonder why a sparkling unicorn would choose a plain donkey for a friend. When a fierce wind shakes the trees, Ben leads Lily to a hollow and stays beside her until the storm passes, then works with her to tidy the fallen fruit and leaves. Later, when Lily's ribbon catches in a thorny bush, Ben nibbles the branches free without hesitation.
The story gently shows young readers that kindness, courage and staying close in hard moments matter more than sparkle or appearance. Told in warm, simple language, it is suited to children in the early primary years and to anyone reading aloud at bedtime, offering a quiet lesson about friendship and judging others by what they do.

The Little Unicorn's Friend - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
In a soft green valley, where wildflowers nodded in the breeze, there lived a little unicorn. Her coat was pearly white and sparkled like morning dew, and her mane flowed in pastel rainbow curls. A slim lavender ribbon danced at the end of her tail. Every day she trotted past a magical orchard, curious about the glowing trees inside. 1
The orchard was a wondrous place. Its trees shimmered with soft golden light, and their fruit tasted sweeter than honey. The little unicorn often peeked through the fence, longing to explore. One sunny morning, she met a donkey standing by the gate. He had warm grey fur, long soft ears, and a straw collar with a tiny red flower tucked in. 2
"Hello," said the unicorn. "I'm Lily. Do you know what's inside this orchard?" The donkey smiled with his gentle brown eyes. "I'm Ben," he said. "I've wandered near it many times. The trees glow at dusk, and the apples taste like sunshine." Lily's sky blue eyes sparkled. "Would you explore it with me?" she asked. Ben nodded happily. 3
So Lily and Ben stepped through the orchard gate together. The trees around them glowed with a warm, magical light, and the air smelled of ripe fruit. Ben's cream muzzle twitched as he sniffed a low-hanging pear. "Look!" he said. "These pears are shining like little lanterns." Lily giggled and trotted closer, her tiny silver hooves leaving faint sparkles on the grass. 4
High in a nearby tree, a small brown owl watched them through tiny round spectacles. Her speckled feathers ruffled as she tilted her head. "A sparkling unicorn playing with a plain donkey?" she hooted softly. "How strange!" A fluffy rabbit in a green leaf cape hopped up beside her. "Maybe they're friends," said the rabbit, twitching her pink nose. "Let's watch and see." 5
Lily and Ben wandered deeper into the orchard. Ben showed Lily where the sweetest berries grew along a sunny wall. Lily used her golden horn to gently nudge a branch, and glowing peaches dropped into Ben's waiting basket. "You're good at finding things," Lily said. Ben's long ears wiggled with pride. "And you make the trees shine brighter," he replied. 6
The owl and the rabbit followed quietly. "I don't understand," whispered the owl, adjusting her spectacles. "The unicorn is so magical and beautiful. Why would she choose a donkey for a friend?" The rabbit shrugged. "Ben is kind," she said. "He always shares his hay and helps carry heavy things. Maybe that matters more than sparkles." 7
That afternoon, a strong wind began to blow through the orchard. It shook the glowing trees, and a shower of golden leaves swirled around Lily and Ben. Lily tried to shield her eyes with her mane, but the wind was too strong. "Hold on!" called Ben. He led Lily to a hollow beneath a big tree, where the wind couldn't reach them. 8
Inside the hollow, Lily shivered. "I'm not used to such wild weather," she said. Ben stood close, his warm grey fur a comfort. "Don't worry," he said gently. "The wind will pass. I'll stay right here with you." He tucked his straw collar tighter and smiled. Lily felt calmer. With Ben beside her, the howling wind seemed less scary. 9
When the wind finally died down, Lily and Ben stepped out. The orchard was a mess. Fallen leaves covered the paths, and glowing fruit lay scattered on the ground. "We should tidy up," said Ben. He began gathering the fruit into neat piles. Lily used her magic horn to gently lift the leaves back into the trees. Together, they worked until the orchard was tidy again. 10
The owl and the rabbit watched from a branch. "Did you see that?" said the rabbit. "Ben didn't run away when the wind came. He stayed with Lily and helped her feel safe." The owl nodded slowly. "And now he's working hard to clean the orchard," she said. "Perhaps I was wrong about what makes a good friend." 11
Just then, Lily tried to reach a shiny apple high in a tree. She stretched her neck, but it was too far. Her hoof slipped on a root, and she tumbled into a thorny bush. "Oh no!" she cried. "My ribbon is stuck!" Ben hurried over at once. "Don't move," he said. "I'll help you." 12
Ben gently nibbled through the thorny branches until Lily could wriggle free. His long ears brushed her cheek softly. "There you are," he said. "Are you hurt?" Lily shook her head, her rainbow mane tumbling. "You came right away," she whispered. "Of course," said Ben. "That's what friends do." The owl and the rabbit cheered from above. 13
The owl fluttered down and landed beside them. "I'm sorry I wondered about your friendship," she hooted. "I see now that Ben's kindness is worth more than any sparkle." The rabbit hopped closer. "We all see it!" she said. Lily smiled at Ben. "I'm glad you're my friend," she said. "Not because of how you look, but because of who you are." 14
From that day on, Lily and Ben explored the magical orchard together every morning. The trees glowed warmly as they shared sweet fruit and played among the flowers. The owl and the rabbit often joined them, and the orchard rang with happy laughter. Ben's straw collar still held its tiny red flower, and Lily's lavender ribbon fluttered in the breeze.
