In the heart of the rainforest lives a little tapir named Tapi, who has dark brown fur, a pale muzzle and a small, flexible snout that wiggles when he is curious. He enjoys wandering the muddy trails and sniffing flowers, but sometimes he feels lonely. One morning by the riverbank he meets Capi, a cheerful capybara, and the two become friends, spending their days playing hide-and-seek among the ferns and racing along the paths. Each discovers what the other is good at: Capi is quick and clever at finding fruit trees, while Tapi is strong and sturdy at pushing through thick bushes.
When heavy rain falls all night and all day, the river rises and the forest floor is covered in water. Tapi and Capi set out together to reach higher ground. Capi watches for the safest path and warns of deep water and slippery mud, while Tapi sniffs out solid ground and uses his strength to free himself when he gets stuck. When the water becomes too deep, they push a fallen log into it and cross as a team, and when the muddy hill proves too slippery for Capi's short legs, Tapi carries her on his back to the top.
The story shows young readers how friendship works: that people have different strengths, that asking for help is not weakness, and that problems are easier to solve together. Told in simple, warm language with two animal characters, it suits children in the early primary years, whether read aloud at bedtime or read alone.

The Little Tapir's Friend - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
In the heart of the rainforest, where the trees grow tall and the leaves shine wet and green, lived a little tapir named Tapi. He had dark brown fur, a pale muzzle, and a small, flexible snout that wiggled when he was curious. Tapi loved to wander along the muddy trails, sniffing flowers and listening to the birds. But sometimes, he felt a little lonely. 1
One morning, as Tapi munched on juicy leaves near the riverbank, he heard a soft splash. A small, reddish-brown animal with a blocky head and tiny ears popped out of the water. It was a capybara! "Hello," said the capybara cheerfully. "My name is Capi. Do you want to share these water plants?" Tapi smiled. "Yes, please!" And just like that, a new friendship began. 2
Tapi and Capi spent every day together. They played hide-andseek among the ferns and raced along the muddy paths. Capi was quick and clever, always spotting the best fruit trees. Tapi was strong and sturdy, able to push through thick bushes. "You're so good at finding things," said Tapi. "And you're so good at making a path," said Capi. They made a great team. 3
One afternoon, the sky turned dark and heavy. Big, fat raindrops began to fall—plip, plop, plip, plop. The rain didn't stop. It rained all night and all the next day. The river rose higher and higher, and soon the forest floor was covered in water. "The flooded forest is no place to stay," said Tapi, looking worried. "We need to find higher ground." 4
Capi stood on tiptoe, her tiny eyes scanning the water. "I see a hill over there," she said, pointing with her blunt nose. "But the water is deep between here and there." Tapi looked at the deep water. He was big and strong, but he didn't like swimming in strange places. "We can do it together," said Capi. "I'll watch for the safest path." 5
Tapi took a deep breath and stepped into the water. It was cold and murky. "Wait!" called Capi. "That way is too deep. Follow me." She scurried along a fallen log, testing the ground with her short legs. "Here, the water is shallow. You can wade across." Tapi followed her, his sturdy legs splashing. "You're a good guide, Capi," he said. 6
They moved slowly through the flooded forest. Tapi's flexible snout helped him sniff out solid ground under the water. Capi's sharp eyes spotted roots and rocks that made a safe path. "Watch out for that slippery mud!" she warned. Tapi slipped, but he caught himself on a strong branch. "Thanks, Capi!" he said. "I couldn't do this without you." 7
As they went deeper, the water grew colder and the mud stickier. Tapi's legs sank into the mud with a squelch. "I'm stuck!" he cried. Capi hurried over. "Don't worry," she said. "I'll find a stick to help you." She found a long, sturdy branch and pushed it under Tapi's feet. With a big heave, Tapi pulled himself free. "You're so clever, Capi!" he cheered. 8
They reached a place where the water was too deep even for Tapi. "I can't swim that far," he said sadly. Capi looked around. "Look! There's a fallen log over there. We can push it into the water and use it as a bridge." Tapi pushed with all his strength, and the log rolled into the water. "Now we can cross safely," said Capi. "Teamwork!" 9
Tapi climbed onto the log, and Capi sat on his back. They floated across the deep water, paddling with their feet. "We make a good boat!" laughed Capi. Tapi smiled. "We make a good team!" The water was calm here, and the hill was getting closer. But the log began to wobble. "Hold on!" said Tapi. "I'll steer us to the shore." 10
Just as they reached the other side, the log tipped, and they both tumbled into the shallow water with a big splash. "Are you okay?" asked Tapi, helping Capi up. "I'm fine!" she giggled. "That was a fun ride!" They stood up, dripping wet, and looked at the hill ahead. The worst was over. "We did it," said Tapi. "We found a safe path together." 11
They climbed the hill, their feet squelching in the mud. But the mud was slippery, and Capi's short legs couldn't get a grip. "I keep sliding back!" she said. Tapi thought for a moment. "Climb on my back," he said. "I'm strong enough to carry you." Capi held on tight as Tapi trudged up the hill, his sturdy legs finding footholds in the mud. 12
At the top of the hill, the ground was dry and firm. "We made it!" shouted Capi, jumping off Tapi's back. They looked down at the flooded forest and then at each other. "Thank you for being so brave," said Capi. "Thank you for being so clever," said Tapi. "We couldn't have done it without each other." They touched noses, happy and safe. 13
That evening, the rain stopped, and the sun peeked through the clouds. Tapi and Capi celebrated with a happy splash in a small, clear puddle. "Friendship makes hard things easier," said Tapi. "And teamwork makes us stronger," added Capi. They promised to always help each other, no matter what. And they knew that together, they could face anything.
