The Little Star Puppy

The Little Star Puppy

Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

One night a tiny star wiggles loose from the sky and tumbles down into the tall grass of a meadow. The little star puppy, with his glowing cream-white fur, crescent-moon tail and silver collar, opens his big dark blue eyes and finds himself alone. He looks up at the million stars above and whispers that he is lost, wondering how he will ever find his family again.

A rabbit in a green scarf with yellow stripes hops out from behind a bush and offers to help. Together the two climb a hill to scan the sky, peer into the branches of an old oak tree, and search the still water of a pond where the stars are reflected. They look behind bushes and under rocks, share wild carrots on a log, and watch a shooting star race past. As the night goes on, Rabbit tells stories about the meadow and stays close whenever the puppy's glow dims.

This gentle children's tale follows a small creature searching for where he belongs and slowly discovering that home may not be only a place, but the company of someone who cares. It is suited to young readers and to adults reading aloud, offering a calm, warm story about friendship, patience and the comfort of not being alone.

The Little Star Puppy - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

High above the meadow, the night sky sparkled with a million stars. One tiny star wiggled, then wobbled, then tumbled down, down, down! It landed with a soft thump in the tall grass. The little star puppy shook his glowing cream fur and blinked his big dark blue eyes. Where was his family? 1

The star puppy had soft cream-white fur that glowed like a nightlight. His tiny ears twitched, and his tail curled into a crescent moon. A silver collar with a star charm jingled at his neck. He looked up at the sky and whispered, 'I'm lost. How will I find my family?' A cool breeze ruffled the grass around him. 2

Just then, a rabbit hopped out from behind a bush. She had long upright ears, a green scarf with yellow stripes, and bright amber eyes. 'Hello, little one,' she said kindly. 'What are you doing out here all alone?' The star puppy's tail wagged. 'I fell from the sky,' he said. 'I'm looking for my family.' 3

'I'm Rabbit,' she said with a warm smile. 'I'll help you find your star family. We can search the night sky together!' The star puppy's eyes twinkled. 'Really? You'd help me?' Rabbit nodded. 'Of course! Friends help friends.' She pointed her nose toward the hill. 'Let's start from the top of that hill. We can see the whole sky from there.' 4

Rabbit and the star puppy climbed the hill. The grass was soft under their feet, and the stars above were bright. 'Do you see your family?' Rabbit asked. The puppy looked up. He saw many stars, but none looked like him. 'No,' he said softly. 'They're not here.' Rabbit patted his paw. 'Don't worry. We'll keep looking.' 5

They walked to the old oak tree at the edge of the meadow. Its branches reached up high. 'Maybe your family is hiding in the leaves,' Rabbit said. They looked up, but only leaves rustled. The star puppy sighed. 'I don't think so.' Rabbit gave him a gentle nudge. 'We'll find them. I promise.' The puppy felt a little better. 6

Next, they visited the pond. The water was still and dark, and the stars reflected on its surface. 'Look!' said Rabbit. 'Stars in the water! Maybe your family is there.' The star puppy leaned over and saw his own glow shimmering. But no family. 'Just me,' he whispered. Rabbit hugged him. 'You're not alone. I'm here.' 7

They searched all night. They looked behind bushes and under rocks. They called out to the sky, but only the wind answered. The star puppy's glow dimmed a little. 'Maybe I'll never find them,' he said. Rabbit took his paw. 'We'll keep trying. The night is still young.' But the puppy's tail drooped. 8

As they walked, Rabbit told the star puppy stories about the meadow. She showed him where the fireflies danced and where the sweetest berries grew. The puppy listened and smiled. 'You know so much,' he said. Rabbit laughed. 'And you glow so bright! You're like a little lantern.' The puppy's tail curled up a bit. 9

They sat on a log and shared a snack of wild carrots. The star puppy had never tasted carrots before. 'These are yummy!' he said. Rabbit grinned. 'My favorite.' They looked up at the sky again. 'Maybe your family is far away,' Rabbit said. 'But you have a friend right here.' The puppy nodded slowly. He didn't feel so lonely. 10

Suddenly, a bright shooting star streaked across the sky. The star puppy jumped up. 'That's my cousin! I'm sure of it!' But the star faded quickly. The puppy's ears drooped. 'I missed them.' Rabbit put an arm around him. 'You didn't miss them. You saw them. That means they're out there.' The puppy's eyes glistened. 11

Rabbit had an idea. 'Let's make a wish on the stars. Maybe your family will hear it.' They closed their eyes and wished together. The star puppy wished to find his family. Rabbit wished for her friend to be happy. When they opened their eyes, the sky seemed to twinkle just for them. 'I feel warm inside,' the puppy said. 12

'Maybe home isn't just a place,' Rabbit said softly. 'Maybe it's being with someone who cares.' The star puppy looked at Rabbit. Her green scarf fluttered in the breeze, and her eyes were kind. 'You mean... home can be here? With you?' Rabbit nodded. 'If you want.' The puppy's glow brightened. 'I do!' 13

The star puppy realized something wonderful. He might not have found his star family, but he had found a friend. And that friendship made him feel like he belonged. 'You're my family now, Rabbit,' he said. Rabbit's nose twitched happily. 'And you're mine.' They hugged under the starry sky, two friends together. 14

From that night on, the star puppy and Rabbit were never apart. They played in the meadow by day and watched the stars by night. The puppy's glow lit their way, and Rabbit's laughter filled the air. 'I still look for my star family,' the puppy said, 'but I'm not sad anymore. Because I have you.' 15

And so, the little star puppy learned that home is not only in the sky but also beside a true friend. The stars above twinkled, and the meadow below was warm with friendship. Rabbit and the star puppy curled up together, and the puppy's crescentmoon tail wrapped around them like a hug. The end.
