High on a green mountain lives a small red panda with autumn-colored fur and a bushy ringed tail. He spends his days watching butterflies and listening to the wind, the bees and the streams, but he nibbles bamboo shoots alone and wishes he had someone to share his meals and his days with. One morning a Himalayan monal with shimmering green, blue and copper feathers lands on a branch beside him, and everything begins to change. The bird gives him a name, Rusty, and offers him the friendship he has been longing for.
Together the two new friends play hide-and-seek among the rhododendron bushes, chase grasshoppers and sing silly songs. Then Rusty notices a narrow path twisting into the shadows behind the ferns. He is frightened, but Moni promises to stay beside him, and side by side they follow the trail until the trees open onto a hidden orchard full of apples, pears and plums. The discovery raises a question: should they keep the orchard a secret, or share it with the other mountain animals?
The story follows Rusty as he moves from shyness and loneliness to courage and generosity, learning that friendship makes difficult things possible and that good things grow when they are shared. Told in simple, warm language with vivid mountain scenery, it is suited to young children being read to at bedtime and to early readers who are ready for a slightly longer tale.

The Little Red Panda's Secret - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
High on a green mountain, where clouds played tag with the peaks, lived a little red panda. His fur was the color of autumn leaves, and his bushy ringed tail curled around him like a soft scarf. He had big dark eyes and white patches on his cheeks and ears. Every day he watched the butterflies dance and wished he had someone to dance with. 1
The mountain was full of sounds: wind whooshing through pine trees, bees buzzing in wildflowers, and streams chattering over smooth stones. But the little red panda heard only his own quiet steps. He nibbled bamboo shoots alone and wondered what it would be like to share a meal. "If only I had a friend," he sighed, his whiskers drooping. 2
One morning, a flash of color shot across the sky like a rainbow with wings. It landed on a branch near the red panda. The bird had shimmering feathers of green, blue, purple, and copper, a turquoise head, and a bright red-orange crest that stood up like a tiny crown. "Hello!" the bird sang. "I'm a Himalayan monal. What's your name?" 3
The red panda was so shy he almost hid behind his tail. But the monal's golden-yellow beak curved into such a friendly smile that he couldn't help peeking out. "I'm just a little red panda," he whispered. "I don't have a name. And I don't have any friends." The monal hopped closer. "Well, today you have both! I'll call you Rusty, because your fur is the color of rust." 4
Rusty's dark eyes grew round and bright. "Rusty!" he repeated, and for the first time in a long while, he felt a warm glow inside. The monal introduced herself as Moni. "I love to explore," she said, fluffing her long tail. "Will you explore with me?" Rusty nodded so fast his whiskers wiggled. Together, they set off into the mountain's green heart. 5
They played hide-and-seek among the rhododendron bushes. Moni's feathers shimmered as she darted between leaves, and Rusty's ringed tail poked out from behind a rock. They chased grasshoppers and sang silly songs. Moni's voice rang out like a bell, and Rusty hummed along. "This is the best day ever!" Rusty laughed, his shyness melting away like morning mist. 6
As they tumbled near a thicket of tall ferns, Rusty noticed something odd. Behind the trees, a narrow path twisted into the shadows. It was barely wider than his paws, and grass grew in the middle. "Look," he whispered. "A path! Where do you think it goes?" Moni tilted her turquoise head. "Only one way to find out," she said with a grin. 7
Rusty's heart beat fast. The path looked dark and mysterious. "Maybe we shouldn't," he said, his tail curling tight. But Moni stepped forward and spread one shimmering wing. "I'll be right beside you," she said softly. "Friends are brave together." Rusty took a deep breath and nodded. Side by side, they followed the little path into the unknown. 8
The path wound through ferns that tickled their noses and under branches that arched like tunnels. Sunbeams slipped through the leaves, making golden spots on the ground. Moni sang a cheerful tune to keep their spirits up. Rusty's short black legs scrambled over roots, and his ringed tail helped him balance. "We're getting somewhere!" Moni chirped. 9
Then the trees opened up, and both friends gasped. Before them lay a hidden orchard! Rows of trees were heavy with plump, sweet-smelling fruit—red apples, golden pears, and purple plums. The grass was soft and green, and a tiny stream bubbled through the middle. "It's a secret orchard!" Rusty whispered, his eyes shining with wonder. 10
They tasted the fruit. Juice dripped down their chins, and they giggled. "We have to tell everyone!" Moni declared. Rusty hesitated. "But then it won't be a secret anymore." Moni nuzzled him gently. "Secrets are best when shared with friends," she said. "Think of all the happy faces!" Rusty smiled. "You're right. Let's go tell them!" 11
They raced back down the path, their hearts light. They told the mountain animals about the orchard. At first, the others were unsure, but Rusty and Moni led the way, encouraging everyone. "Follow us! It's safe!" Rusty called. One by one, the animals joined the parade. When they reached the orchard, delighted squeals filled the air. 12
The mountain animals feasted and played until the sun dipped low. They thanked Rusty and Moni for their discovery. "You were brave to follow that path," said a wise old goat. Rusty looked at Moni. "We were brave together," he said. From that day on, the orchard was a shared treasure, and the little path became a well-loved trail. 13
Rusty was never lonely again. Moni visited him every day, and they explored new corners of the mountain. Sometimes they found tiny caves or sparkling streams, but no discovery was as sweet as their friendship. "What should we explore today?" Moni would ask, and Rusty would answer with a happy bounce, "Anything, as long as we're together!" 14
As seasons passed, the red panda and the Himalayan monal became the best of friends. They learned that being curious and brave is more fun when you have a friend by your side.
