The Little Rabbit's Secret

The Little Rabbit's Secret

Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

In a sunny meadow at the edge of a whispering wood lives a little brown rabbit with tall ears and a sky-blue scarf tied in a neat bow. She is curious about everything, though she is just a little shy. One bright morning the ground near her burrow wiggles and wobbles, and up pops a small, sturdy mole with velvety dark-grey fur, tiny golden spectacles and silver sparkles glittering on his back. He introduces himself kindly, shows her a tiny brass buckle that shines like honey, and asks whether she would like to be friends. From that day on the two play together in the meadow, chasing dandelion fluff, counting clouds and sharing clover and carrot tops.

One afternoon the mole grows quiet and mysterious. From his satchel he draws a key made of polished stone and whispers that something wonderful is hidden deep underground. The rabbit feels a flutter of worry at the dark tunnel entrance, but the mole takes her paw and promises she will not be alone. Down they go, past roots that hang like sleepy worms and stones that glow faintly in the dark, until they reach a round wooden door. Beyond it lies a secret library, row after row of shelves made of smooth brown earth, filled with books that were lost above and kept safe below, all lit by soft glowing mushrooms.

The story follows the two friends as they settle on a mossy cushion and read together, the mole in his gentle, rumbly voice and the rabbit slowly and proudly reading a page herself. Through their underground journey it shows young readers how friendship turns an ordinary day into something special and how courage grows big and warm when someone we trust stays beside us. It is a gentle tale for children who are just beginning to read on their own, and for anyone who has ever felt too shy to go somewhere new.

The Little Rabbit's Secret - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

In a sunny meadow at the edge of a whispering wood lived a little rabbit. Her fur was warm brown, and her long ears stood up tall with pink inside. She wore a sky-blue scarf tied in a neat bow. Every morning she hopped out of her burrow to see what the day might bring. She was curious about everything, though she was just a little shy. 1

One bright morning, the ground near her burrow began to wiggle and wobble. Up popped a small, sturdy creature with velvety dark-grey fur and tiny golden spectacles. He had a round pink nose and big shovel-like paws. Silver sparkles glittered softly on his back like little stars. "Hello," he said kindly. "I am a mole, and I dig wonderful tunnels." 2

The little rabbit's big dark eyes grew wide with wonder. "I am a rabbit," she said softly, "and I have never met a mole before." The mole chuckled and tipped his golden spectacles. "Then today is a lucky day for both of us," he said. He opened his small brown satchel and showed her a tiny brass buckle that shone like honey. "Would you like to be friends?" he asked. The rabbit nodded and smiled. 3

Every day after that, the two friends played together in the meadow. They chased dandelion fluff and counted clouds that looked like ships. The mole told funny stories about the creatures who lived beneath the grass. The rabbit shared sweet clover and fresh carrot tops from her garden. When the wind blew cold, they sat close and watched the sunset turn pink and gold. Being friends made every ordinary day feel special. 4

One afternoon, the mole grew very quiet and mysterious. He opened his satchel and carefully pulled out something small and shiny. It was a key made of polished stone, with tiny silver sparkles in it. "I have a secret," he whispered, his golden eyes twinkling. "Something wonderful is hidden deep, deep underground. Would you be brave enough to come and see it?" The rabbit's heart went thump, thump, thump. 5

The rabbit looked at the dark tunnel entrance and felt a little flutter of worry. "It looks very dark down there," she said, holding her scarf. The mole gently took her paw. "You will not be alone," he promised. "I know every twist and turn, and I will stay right beside you." The rabbit took a deep breath and nodded. With her best friend near, she felt her courage grow big and warm. 6

Down they went, into a tunnel that curved like a ribbon. The mole's big paws dug softly through the earth, making a path just wide enough for two. Little roots hung from the ceiling like sleepy worms, and the soil smelled cool and sweet. The rabbit's long ears brushed the soft dirt as she hopped behind him. "Are we nearly there?" she whispered. The mole only smiled. 7

Deeper and deeper they went, past stones that glowed faintly in the dark. The mole's silver sparkles shone like tiny lanterns, lighting the way. The rabbit heard a soft dripping sound and the rustle of tiny feet far away. "It is not scary," said the mole, "when you know the way." Finally, they stopped before a round wooden door with the stone key shining in the mole's paw. 8

The key turned with a gentle click, and the door swung open. The rabbit gasped and held her scarf. Beyond the door stretched a huge underground room filled with shelves, row after row, all made of smooth brown earth. Books sat on every shelf, their covers bright with gold and red and blue. Soft glowing mushrooms hung from the ceiling like little lamps. "Welcome," said the mole, "to the secret library." 9

The rabbit hopped inside and spun around in a happy circle. "So many books!" she squealed. The mole chuckled and adjusted his golden spectacles. "Every book here was lost above, and I have kept them safe," he explained. The rabbit pulled out a book about flying kites and another about dancing stars. Together they settled on a soft mossy cushion and opened the first page. The pictures sparkled in the mushroom light. 10

The mole read aloud in his gentle, rumbly voice. He told of a brave mouse who sailed a leaf boat across a giant puddle. The rabbit listened with her ears standing tall. Then she read a page herself, slowly and proudly, about a bird who learned to sing. "You are a wonderful reader," said the mole. "And you are a wonderful friend," she replied. They laughed, and their laughter echoed softly off the shelves. 11

As they read, the rabbit found a book about faraway mountains with snow on top. "I have never seen a mountain," she said. "I am too shy to go so far." The mole smiled and closed the book gently. "Friends help each other try new things," he said. "I will go with you one day, and we will see them together." The rabbit felt a warm glow inside. With a friend beside her, anything felt possible. 12

From that day on, the two friends visited the secret library again and again. Sometimes they read about the ocean and its singing whales. Sometimes they read about castles and their kind queens. Each visit, the rabbit chose a book she had never seen before. "A new discovery every time!" she cheered. The mole nodded, his golden spectacles shining. They always left with a happy secret tucked in their hearts.
