In a sparkling blue ocean filled with coral gardens, a little mermaid with turquoise hair and a shimmering teal tail spends her days exploring and making friends. One sunny morning she discovers Pip, a tiny coral-orange seahorse with yellow spots, tangled in seaweed. She gently frees him, and from that moment the two become inseparable companions. Pip is no bigger than her palm, but he carries a woven seagrass satchel and a brave heart, and soon he leads the little mermaid to a hidden coral library guarded by Grandpa Coral, an old wise turtle who keeps the ocean's stories in shimmering shell books.
When a sudden storm churns the water and sends the precious books flying off the shelves, the two friends must act quickly. The little mermaid cannot reach every book, but Pip, small and fast, squeezes into crevices and darts after each drifting volume with a tiny net made of seaweed. Together they carry the books to safety while Grandpa Coral watches.
The story shows young readers that size has nothing to do with courage or kindness, and that teamwork can turn a small friend into a hero. Told in simple, warm language, it is suited to children in the early primary years and to anyone reading aloud at bedtime, and it opens gentle conversations about helping others and believing in oneself.

A Chapter from the Book
The Little Mermaid's Friend - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
Once upon a time, in the sparkling blue ocean, there lived a little mermaid with warm light-peach skin and long wavy turquoise hair. She wore a seashell clip and a necklace of tiny white pearls. Her teal tail shimmered as she swam through the coral gardens. She loved exploring and making new friends. Every day was a new adventure in the big, beautiful sea. 1
One sunny morning, the little mermaid found a tiny seahorse tangled in seaweed. The seahorse was bright coral-orange with yellow spots and big round blue eyes. He looked scared and stuck. "Don't worry, I'll help you!" she said. With gentle hands, she untangled him. The seahorse smiled a happy grin. "I'm Pip," he said. "Thank you for saving me!" 2
From that day on, the little mermaid and Pip were best friends. Pip was only as big as her palm, but he had a brave heart. He carried a tiny woven seagrass satchel everywhere. "What's in your satchel?" she asked. "Just treasures I find," Pip said. "Today, I found a map to a hidden coral library!" The little mermaid's amber eyes grew wide with excitement. 3
The map led them through a maze of colorful coral. They swam past waving sea fans and darting fish. "Are you sure we're going the right way?" asked the little mermaid. Pip checked the map with his big blue eyes. "Yes! Just past the tall purple sponge!" Finally, they saw a glowing archway made of pink coral. "We found it!" they cheered together. 4
Inside the archway was the most amazing library they had ever seen. Books made of shimmering shells lined the walls. Some books sparkled like diamonds, others glowed like moonlight. "Welcome, little ones," said a gentle voice. It was Grandpa Coral, an old wise turtle with a long white beard and round spectacles. "I am the librarian here. These books hold the ocean's stories." 5
Grandpa Coral showed them how the books worked. Each shell book opened to reveal pictures and words that danced in the water. "This one is about brave dolphins," he said. "And this one tells of sunken ships." The little mermaid and Pip listened with wide eyes. "Can we read them all?" asked Pip. Grandpa Coral chuckled. "One day, little friend. One day." 6
Suddenly, the water grew cold and dark. A storm was coming! The waves above churned and roared. "Quick, we must protect the books!" cried Grandpa Coral. But before they could move, a strong current swept through the library. Books flew off the shelves and scattered everywhere. "Oh no!" gasped the little mermaid. "The books are everywhere!" 7
The storm raged on, tossing the shell books far and wide. Some floated up toward the surface, others sank into dark crevices. The little mermaid tried to catch them, but they were too fast. "I can't reach them all!" she cried. Pip watched the books scatter. His big blue eyes filled with worry. Then he took a deep breath. "I have an idea!" he shouted. 8
Pip swam quickly to his satchel and pulled out a tiny net made of seaweed. "I may be small, but I'm fast!" he said. He darted after the nearest book and caught it in his net. Then he zoomed to the next one. The little mermaid watched in amazement as Pip zipped around the library, gathering books one by one. "Great job, Pip!" she cheered. 9
Pip was so quick that he could squeeze into tiny spaces where the little mermaid couldn't reach. He rescued a book from behind a rock and another from under a coral ledge. "I've got three!" he called. "Now five!" The little mermaid helped by carrying the books Pip collected to a safe corner. Together, they made a great team. Even Grandpa Coral was impressed. 10
After what seemed like hours, the storm finally passed. The water grew calm and clear again. Pip was exhausted but happy. His satchel was full of books, and more were piled around him. "You did it, Pip!" said the little mermaid, giving him a gentle hug. "You saved the books!" Pip's tiny dorsal fin fluttered with pride. "We did it together," he said. 11
Grandpa Coral swam over slowly, his brown eyes twinkling behind his shell spectacles. "I have never seen such bravery from such a little seahorse," he said. "Pip, you have shown that even the smallest friend can make a big difference." He placed a tiny shell medal around Pip's neck. "This is for your courage and kindness." Pip blushed, his yellow spots glowing. 12
The little mermaid beamed at her friend. "I always knew you were special, Pip," she said. "You don't have to be big to do big things." Pip hugged her finger with his curled tail. "And you don't have to be big to be a good friend," he replied. They promised to visit Grandpa Coral and the coral library often, and to always help others whenever they could. 13
From that day on, the little mermaid and Pip were known throughout the ocean as the best of friends. They went on many more adventures, always helping others along the way. And whenever someone said, "You're too small to help," Pip would smile and say, "Small friends can make a big difference!" And he was right. 14
One evening, as the sun set over the ocean, the little mermaid and Pip sat on a rock, watching the waves. "I'm so glad I found you," said the little mermaid. "Me too," said Pip.
