The Little Lynx's Friend - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
In the heart of the woodland, where tall pines whispered secrets to the wind, lived a little lynx cub. His fur was tawnygold with dark spots, and his ear tufts twitched at every sound. He wore a moss-green scarf knitted with tiny snowflakes. One crisp morning, he set out to explore, his big amber eyes wide with wonder. The snow sparkled like a thousand diamonds, and the air smelled of pine and frost. 1
The lynx cub trotted along a winding path, his broad fluffy paws leaving soft prints in the snow. He loved how the woodland changed in winter—quiet, still, and full of hidden treasures. Suddenly, a shimmer of light caught his eye. Behind a frosty bush, something white and sparkling moved. The cub's heart beat fast. He crept closer, curious but cautious. What could it be? 2
Out stepped a snow hare, its fur white and glittering with frost. Long ears tipped in icy blue stood tall, and a tiny silver bell jingled on a pale blue ribbon around its neck. Faint snowflake markings glowed on its back. The hare's bright blue eyes met the lynx's amber ones. For a moment, they just stared. Then the hare gave a small, gentle bow. 'Hello,' it said softly. 'I am Snowdrop.' 3
The lynx cub blinked. 'I'm Lynx,' he said, his voice a little shy. He wasn't sure about this magical creature. Was it friend or foe? Snowdrop smiled, and the bell tinkled. 'Don't be afraid,' she said. 'I know these woods well. Would you like to see something special?' Lynx hesitated, then nodded. His curiosity was stronger than his worry. Together, they started walking deeper into the woodland. 4
Snowdrop led Lynx to a wall of ice that shimmered like glass. 'This is the frozen maze,' she said. 'It's full of surprises, but only if you know how to look.' Lynx's eyes widened. The maze stretched left and right, its paths twisting like a ribbon. 'How do we get through?' he asked. Snowdrop's bell jingled as she hopped forward. 'By listening and working together,' she said. 'Shall we try?' 5
They entered the maze, and the icy walls rose high above them. At every turn, there were strange and wonderful things: a bush of berries that glowed like tiny lanterns, a patch of snow that sang a soft tune, and frost flowers that opened as they passed. Lynx wanted to rush ahead, but Snowdrop said, 'Wait. Listen.' He stopped and heard a faint humming. 'This way,' she whispered, and they followed the sound. 6
The humming led them to a fork in the path. One way was dark and narrow; the other was bright and wide. Lynx wanted to take the bright path, but Snowdrop shook her head. 'The maze plays tricks,' she said. 'The bright path leads in circles. The dark path leads to the heart of the maze.' Lynx frowned. 'How do you know?' he asked. Snowdrop pointed to the snowflake markings on her back. 'They glow when I'm near magic,' she said. 7
Lynx wasn't sure. He liked bright things, and the dark path looked scary. But Snowdrop's blue eyes were kind and wise. 'Trust me,' she said. 'We'll go together.' Lynx took a deep breath. 'Okay,' he said. 'Together.' They stepped onto the dark path, and the walls around them sparkled with hidden frost stars. Lynx's scarf kept him warm, and Snowdrop's bell jingled softly, like a friendly song. 8
As they walked, Lynx grew impatient. The path twisted and turned, and he couldn't see where it led. 'Are we there yet?' he asked for the third time. Snowdrop laughed, a sound like tinkling ice. 'Patience, little lynx,' she said. 'The maze rewards those who wait.' She showed him how to read the frost patterns on the walls—swirls that pointed the way. Lynx tried to be patient, and slowly, he began to notice the small wonders around him. 9
They came to a frozen pond where the ice was smooth as glass. Lynx tried to step on it, but his paws slipped. Snowdrop giggled. 'Watch me,' she said, and she danced across the ice, her bell ringing merrily. Lynx watched her graceful moves, then tried again. He wobbled, then steadied. 'I'm doing it!' he cried. Snowdrop cheered. 'You see? We can learn from each other.' Lynx felt proud and happy. 10
Just then, the maze shifted. The walls of ice groaned and moved, blocking their path. Lynx's heart raced. 'What do we do?' he whispered. Snowdrop stayed calm. 'We listen,' she said. 'The maze has a voice.' They stood still, and Lynx heard a low hum coming from the left. 'That way!' he said. Snowdrop nodded. 'You're learning,' she said. They followed the hum, and the walls opened to let them pass. 11
On the other side, they found a clearing filled with snowflakes that sparkled in every color. 'This is the heart of the maze,' Snowdrop said. 'The magic is strong here.' Lynx looked around in awe. 'It's beautiful,' he breathed. Snowdrop smiled. 'The magic is not just in the maze,' she said. 'It's in friendship, too. When we listen and help each other, we make our own magic.' Lynx nodded, understanding. 12
Lynx thought about how he had wanted to rush and take the easy path. 'I'm glad I listened to you,' he said. 'And I'm glad you were patient with me.' Snowdrop's bell jingled. 'That's what friends do,' she said. 'They understand each other.' They sat together in the glowing clearing, and Lynx felt warm inside, even though the snow was cold. He knew he had found a true friend.
