A Chapter from the Book

The Little Crystal Deer - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

Deep in the woods, where ferns grow tall and soft moss carpets the ground, there is a hidden forest. Only the oldest trees know the way. Sunbeams slip through the leaves like golden ribbons. In this secret place, magic hums quietly in the air, waiting for someone to find it. And someone small and sparkly does live there, all alone. 1

Lumi is a little crystal deer. Her body is made of pale blue crystal that sparkles when the light touches it. Tiny frost-like antlers crown her head, and her big sapphire eyes shine with curiosity. Around her neck, she wears a thin ribbon of woven silver moss. Her small hooves chime softly as she walks through the hidden sanctuary, guardian of this magical place. 2

Every morning, Lumi visits the sparkling stream that runs through the hidden forest. The water giggles over smooth stones, and the trees around it glow with a soft, golden light. She loves to watch the colors dance on her crystal body. But sometimes, when the forest is very quiet, Lumi feels a little lonely. She wonders if anyone will ever find her secret world. 3

One sunny day, a young fox named Rusty is out exploring. He has bright russet-orange fur, a white chest, and a bushy tail with a white tip. His green canvas satchel holds acorns and berries for snacks. Rusty is bold and friendly, and he loves to discover new places. Today, he pushes through a thick hedge of ferns and stops in surprise. 4

Rusty blinks. Before him is the most amazing place he has ever seen! Trees glow like lanterns, and a stream sparkles with a thousand tiny lights. And there, standing by the water, is a little deer made of crystal. Lumi is shy at first. She hides behind a glowing tree, but her sapphire eyes peek out, curious about the visitor. 5

"Hello," says Rusty gently. "I'm Rusty. I didn't mean to scare you. This place is beautiful!" Lumi steps forward slowly, her hooves chiming. "I'm Lumi," she whispers. "This is my sanctuary. I've never had a visitor before." Rusty's amber eyes twinkle. "Well, now you have a friend!" he says. Lumi's crystal heart glows a little brighter. 6

Lumi shows Rusty her favorite places. They visit a grove where the trees have leaves that glow like fireflies. They skip stones across the sparkling stream and laugh as the ripples make rainbow colors. Rusty shares berries from his satchel, and Lumi shows him how to make moss crowns. The hidden forest is full of wonders, and exploring it together is twice as much fun. 7

As the sun begins to set, a problem appears. The stream that gives the sanctuary its magic starts to slow down. The glowing trees dim, and the sparkles fade. Lumi looks worried. "Oh no!" she cries. "The stream is blocked! Without its magic, the forest will lose its glow." Rusty puts a paw on her shoulder. "Don't worry," he says. "We'll fix it together." 8

They follow the stream to a tangle of fallen branches and rocks. The water can't get through! Rusty tries to pull a branch, but it's too heavy. Lumi tries to push a rock, but it won't budge. They need a better plan. "What if we work as a team?" suggests Rusty. "You push, and I pull at the same time." Lumi nods, and they get to work. 9

Rusty pulls with all his might, his bushy tail swishing. Lumi pushes with her delicate hooves, making soft chimes. Slowly, the branches move. They pull and push, pull and push. Finally, with a big splash, the water rushes free! The stream sparkles again, and the trees glow brighter than ever. Lumi and Rusty cheer and dance in the sparkling spray. 10

That night, they sit together under a glowing tree. Lumi looks at Rusty. "Thank you for helping me," she says. "I learned that even very different friends can share wonderful adventures." Rusty smiles. "And I learned that kindness and teamwork can solve anything!" They promise to meet again tomorrow and every day after. The hidden forest feels warmer with friendship in it. 11

From that day on, Lumi and Rusty are best friends. They explore every corner of the hidden sanctuary, from the shimmering caves to the singing meadows. Rusty learns to be patient, and Lumi learns to be brave. They understand each other better every day. The forest sparkles even brighter, as if it knows that two friends are better than one. 12

One morning, they find a tiny crystal flower that has never bloomed before. It opens its petals and shines with all the colors of the rainbow. "It's because of our friendship," Lumi says. "The forest feels our happiness." Rusty grins. "Then let's make every day a happy one!" They promise to always help each other and to share the magic of the hidden forest with kindness. 13

And so, the little crystal deer and the friendly fox show that caring and working together make every day brighter. Whether they are splashing in the stream or solving a problem, they do it side by side. Their friendship is the best magic of all. And if you listen closely, you might hear the soft chime of Lumi's hooves and the happy bark of Rusty, echoing through the hidden forest.
