The Lemur's Birthday Tree - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL

In a leafy forest, a ring-tailed lemur named Lilo lived in a cozy treehouse. His soft grey fur and bright amber-yellow eyes sparkled with excitement. Tomorrow was his birthday! Lilo loved parties more than anything. He curled his long blackand-white striped tail and smiled. 'I want all my friends to come,' he said. 'Every single one!' 1

Lilo's best friend was Tico, a tailless tenrec with spiky brownand-tan quills and a pointed snout. Tico carried a blue cloth satchel full of party supplies. 'We need games, treats, and decorations,' Tico said, checking the list. 'And we must make sure everyone can join the fun.' Lilo nodded. 'Yes! No friend left out.' 2

They climbed up to the treehouse, a wooden platform high in a big oak tree. Lilo's red party hat with a yellow pom-pom sat on his head. Tico tucked a tiny yellow flower near one ear. 'Let's plan,' said Tico. 'Who's coming?' Lilo counted on his fingers: 'Tortoise, Bat, and all our other friends!' They got to work right away. 3

First, they thought about Tortoise, who moved very slowly. 'The treehouse ladder is too steep for her,' Lilo said. Tico pulled out a hammer and wood from the satchel. 'Let's build a ramp,' Tico suggested. They worked together, measuring and nailing. The ramp was smooth and wide, perfect for a slow, steady climb. 'Now Tortoise can come up easily,' Lilo cheered. 4

Next, they thought about Bat, who was shy and didn't like bright lights. 'We need soft lights,' Lilo said. Tico found little paper lanterns and fairy lights in the satchel. They hung them gently around the treehouse. The lights glowed warmly, not harshly. 'This will make Bat feel safe,' Tico said. Lilo smiled, imagining Bat's big round ears and tiny bow tie. 5

They also made quiet spots for anyone who needed a rest. Tico stacked soft cushions in a corner and draped a blanket over a branch. 'A cozy nook,' Lilo said. 'Perfect for a little break.' They added a small basket of fruit treats nearby, so friends could snack in peace. The treehouse was becoming a welcoming place for everyone. 6

Word spread through the forest. Tortoise heard about the ramp and smiled her warm, slow smile. 'How kind,' she said, adjusting her green scarf. Bat heard about the soft lights and quiet corner. 'Maybe I can go,' Bat whispered, holding a tiny paper lantern. 'They thought of me.' All the friends felt excited and included. 7

The day before the party, Lilo and Tico decorated the treehouse with leaves and flowers. Lilo's ringed tail curled upward as he hung a banner. Tico arranged the games: a ringtoss and a leaf-matching game. 'We need prizes,' Tico said. They made little acorn medals and berry crowns. Everything was ready for a wonderful celebration. 8

On the morning of the party, Lilo put on his red party hat and green leaf badge. Tico shouldered the blue satchel, now full of treats. They climbed the treehouse and waited. Soon, Tortoise arrived, slowly climbing the new ramp. 'I made it!' she said, her domed shell shining. Lilo clapped. 'Welcome, Tortoise!' 9

Then Bat fluttered in, her large round ears twitching. She wore her pale-yellow bow tie and carried her little lantern. The soft lights made her feel brave. 'Hello,' Bat said quietly. 'Thanks for the cozy corner.' Lilo showed her the quiet spot, and Bat's glossy eyes lit up. 'I can rest here if I need to,' she said. 10

More friends arrived: a squirrel, a rabbit, and a mouse. Everyone played games together. Tortoise won the leafmatching game, and Bat tried the ring-toss. Lilo cheered for each friend. 'You're doing great!' he called. Tico handed out acorn medals and berry crowns. Laughter filled the treehouse, and the soft lights twinkled like fireflies. 11

After games, they shared treats. Tortoise brought a basket of fruit, and Tico passed around honey cookies. They sat in a circle, munching happily. Bat shared stories from the night sky. 'The stars are like little lanterns,' she said. Lilo listened, his amber eyes wide. 'Tell us more!' he urged. The treehouse felt warm and full of friendship. 12

When the sun began to set, Lilo brought out a small honey cake with a single candle. Everyone sang 'Happy Birthday.' Lilo made a wish and blew out the candle. 'What did you wish for?' asked Tico. Lilo smiled. 'I wished for more happy parties with all of you.' The friends cheered and hugged. 13

As the party wound down, Lilo looked around the treehouse. Tortoise was resting comfortably in the quiet nook. Bat was playing a gentle game with the mouse. Everyone had a place. 'You know,' Lilo said to Tico, 'thinking about what each friend needed made the party better for everyone.' Tico nodded, her quills bobbing. 'Kindness makes the best celebrations.' 14

The friends said goodnight and promised to visit again. Tortoise slowly made her way down the ramp, and Bat flew off with her lantern glowing. Lilo and Tico waved from the treehouse. 'Thank you for helping,' Lilo said. Tico smiled. 'We make a good team.' They cleaned up together, talking about the fun they had. 15

That night, Lilo curled up in his treehouse, his ringed tail wrapped around him. He felt warm and happy. The birthday tree had become a place where every friend belonged. 'A simple party with a lot of care,' he whispered. 'That's the best kind.' And he drifted off to sleep, dreaming of more joyful celebrations under the stars.
