Lila is a curious girl who lives in a small village at the edge of a great forest. One crisp winter morning, wearing her mustard yellow raincoat and teal rubber boots, she ventures into the snow hoping to see something new. Behind a snow-covered bush, she discovers a little reindeer named Niko, no taller than her knee, with a red ribbon around his neck. Niko seems to want her to follow, and so begins a journey that will change how Lila sees the natural world.
As Lila follows Niko through the forest, he leads her to a clearing where green shoots peek through melting snow, then to a wide meadow full of flowers. Over the next few days, Niko shows her different places: a shady autumn forest, a windy spring tundra. Lila realizes that Niko travels with the seasons, and she begins to map his migration route with colored pencils, marking each spot with a different color. She notices that animals need clean water and healthy land to survive.
With her best friend Mia, Lila finishes the map and shares it with their classmates, teaching them about migration and how nature connects us all. The story gently introduces young readers to the idea of seasonal migration and the importance of protecting the environment. It is a tale of curiosity, friendship, and the small steps we can take to help nature. Ideal for children who love animals and adventure, and for parents and teachers looking for stories that inspire care for the natural world.

The Girl and the Little Reindeer - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
Lila lived in a small village at the edge of a great forest. She loved to explore, and her canvas satchel was always full of colored pencils and a folded map. One crisp winter morning, she pulled on her mustard yellow raincoat and teal rubber boots. Her curly black hair bounced in two puffy buns as she stepped into the snow. Today, she hoped to see something new. 1
As Lila walked deeper into the forest, she heard a soft crunching sound. Behind a snow-covered bush stood a little reindeer, no taller than her knee. Its light brown fur was soft, and its creamy white chest glowed in the morning light. Small velvety antlers poked up from its head, and a red ribbon was tied around its neck. The reindeer looked at her with gentle, dark eyes. 2
'Hello, little one,' Lila whispered. The reindeer took a step closer and nuzzled her hand. She noticed a small tag on its ribbon that read 'Niko.' 'Are you lost, Niko?' she asked. The reindeer shook its head and pawed at the snow. Then it turned and looked at her, as if asking her to follow. Lila's heart raced with curiosity. 3
Niko led Lila through the snowy forest, past tall pine trees and frozen streams. They walked for a while until they reached a clearing where the snow was thinner. 'Why did you bring me here?' Lila wondered aloud. Niko pointed his nose toward the ground, where tiny green shoots were starting to peek through the melting snow. Lila realized that the seasons were changing. 4
Niko began to trot, and Lila followed. They crossed a bubbling stream and climbed a small hill. At the top, Lila gasped. Below them stretched a wide meadow, green and dotted with colorful flowers. 'Is this where you go in summer?' she asked. Niko nodded and pranced happily. Lila pulled out her map and pencils. She wanted to remember this place. 5
Over the next few days, Lila visited Niko whenever she could. Each time, the reindeer showed her a different place. They explored a shady forest in autumn, where leaves crunched underfoot. They visited a windy tundra in spring, where tiny flowers bloomed. Lila marked each spot on her map with a different color. 'You travel so far!' she said. Niko just flicked his ears and smiled. 6
One day, Lila asked Niko, 'How do you know where to go?' Niko looked up at the sky and then at the ground. He seemed to be listening to the wind. Lila thought about the sun and the stars. 'Maybe you follow the seasons,' she said. Niko nuzzled her cheek, as if to say yes. Lila felt a warm glow inside. 7
Back at home, Lila spread her map on the kitchen table. She drew arrows showing Niko's journey from the winter forest to the summer meadow. She colored the forest dark green, the meadow bright yellow, and the tundra purple. But something was missing. She remembered the stream and the healthy plants. 'Animals need clean water and good land,' she said to herself. 8
Lila's best friend, Mia, knocked on the door. Mia had sandy blonde hair in a short bob and freckles across her nose. She wore her sky blue hoodie and orange sneakers. 'What are you working on?' Mia asked. Lila showed her the map. 'It's Niko's migration route,' Lila explained. 'But I want to show how everything is connected.' Mia grinned. 'Let's finish it together!' 9
The two friends worked all afternoon. Mia drew a blue stream winding through the map. Lila added tiny trees and flowers. They marked the places where Niko found food and rest. 'Reindeer need healthy land and water to survive,' Lila said. Mia nodded. 'And so do we all,' she added. They decided to share the map with their friends. 10
The next day, Lila and Mia gathered their classmates in the schoolyard. Lila held up the colorful map. 'This is where Niko the reindeer lives,' she said. 'He travels with the seasons, from the winter forest to the summer meadow.' The children listened with wide eyes. Lila pointed to the blue stream. 'Animals depend on clean water and green land. We can help protect them.' 11
Mia handed out small copies of the map. 'We can all be nature helpers,' she said. The children cheered. They talked about picking up litter and planting trees. Lila felt proud. Her map was teaching her friends about migration and how nature connects us all. Niko's journey had brought them together. 12
That evening, Lila visited Niko one last time before winter set in. She tied a new red ribbon around his neck. 'Thank you for showing me your world,' she whispered. Niko nuzzled her and then trotted off toward the forest. Lila watched until he disappeared. She knew he would return when the seasons changed again. 13
Back at home, Lila hung her map on the wall. It showed the forests, meadows, and streams that Niko called home. She added a small drawing of Niko with his red ribbon. Mia came over, and they sat together, looking at the map. 'We should make more maps,' Mia said. 'For other animals too.' Lila smiled. 'Yes, let's do that.' 14
Weeks later, snow fell softly outside. Lila received a letter from a wildlife group thanking her for her map. They invited her to share it at a nature fair. Lila and Mia stood proudly by their map as people admired it. 'Reindeer migration is amazing,' one person said. Lila nodded. 'And we can help protect their home,' she replied.
