In a cozy house at the end of a quiet street, a boy with sandy-brown hair and a gap-toothed smile visits an animal rescue center, hoping to find a puppy to love. There he meets Pip, a tiny puppy with soft cream-and-tan fur, one floppy ear and one that perks up, and big dark chocolate eyes that look scared. The boy kneels down, speaks softly, and knows right away that Pip is the puppy for him. He promises Pip a safe home forever, and on the way home, Pip curls up in his lap and falls asleep.
At home, Pip is shy and hides under the sofa, but the boy is patient and kind. He sits on the floor, waits, and offers treats until Pip slowly creeps out. The next day, training begins. With a green canvas treat pouch and plenty of praise, the boy teaches Pip to sit, come, wait for his food, and walk nicely on a leash. Pip learns that training time is the best time of day, and their bond grows stronger with every small success.
As Pip becomes confident and playful, the boy and Pip do everything together: they play fetch, walk to the park, and take naps side by side. When a thunderstorm frightens Pip, the boy comforts him and teaches him to be brave. Through patience, trust, and love, Pip transforms from a scared rescue puppy into a happy, confident friend. This heartwarming story shows young readers the rewards of adopting a pet and the importance of gentle, consistent training. It is ideal for children learning about kindness, responsibility, and the special friendship between a boy and his dog.

The Boy and the Little Puppy - Author : Aysel Banu YAVUZAL
In a cozy house at the end of a quiet street lived a boy with sandy-brown hair and a gap-toothed smile. He wore mustardyellow t-shirts and blue denim overalls. One sunny morning, he and his mom drove to the animal rescue center. The boy's heart thumped with excitement. He was going to meet a little puppy who needed a home. He hoped the puppy would like him. 1
At the rescue center, a tiny puppy sat alone in a corner. He had soft cream-and-tan fur and one floppy ear and one ear that perked up. His big dark chocolate eyes looked scared. The boy knelt down and spoke softly. "Hello, little one," he whispered. The puppy wagged his white-tipped tail just a little. The boy knew right away that this was the puppy for him. 2
The boy gently picked up the puppy. The puppy felt warm and small in his arms. He wore a soft blue collar with a tiny silver tag. "I will call you Pip," the boy said. Pip licked the boy's cheek. The boy laughed. He promised to give Pip a safe home forever. On the way home, Pip curled up in the boy's lap and fell asleep. 3
At home, Pip was shy and scared. He hid under the sofa and would not come out. The boy sat on the floor and waited. He did not rush or grab. He put a few tasty treats near the sofa. Pip's little black nose twitched. Slowly, the puppy crept out. He sniffed the treats and ate them. The boy smiled. "Good boy, Pip," he said softly. 4
The next day, the boy began training. He wore his green canvas treat pouch on his belt. "Sit, Pip," he said kindly. Pip did not know what to do. The boy held a treat above Pip's nose. Pip sat down. "Yes! Good sit!" the boy cheered. He gave Pip the treat and a happy pat. Pip's tail wagged. Training was fun! 5
Every day they practiced simple skills. The boy would call, "Pip, come!" and Pip would run to him. Sometimes Pip got distracted by a leaf or a bug. The boy was patient. He never yelled. He waited and tried again. With treats and happy praise, Pip learned that training time was the best time of day. He began to trust the boy more and more. 6
Pip learned to sit and come when called. He learned to wait for his food and to walk nicely on a leash. The boy always used treats and praise. Pip's big dark eyes sparkled with joy. He followed the boy everywhere. The boy felt proud. "You are so smart, Pip," he said. Pip barked happily and licked the boy's hand. 7
Soon Pip was not shy anymore. He greeted the boy at the door with a wagging tail. He brought his ball to play. The boy and Pip did everything together. They played fetch in the backyard. They walked to the park. They even took naps side by side. Pip's floppy ear flopped as he ran. The boy laughed and ran with him. They were a team. 8
One day, the boy and Pip went to the park. Pip saw a squirrel and dashed away. The boy called, "Pip, come!" Pip stopped and looked back. He remembered his training. He ran back to the boy. "Good come!" the boy cheered. He gave Pip a treat and a big hug. Pip felt safe and loved. He knew he could always trust the boy. 9
At home, the boy and Pip practiced new tricks. They learned to shake paws and roll over. Pip loved the treats and the praise. The boy loved seeing Pip happy. Their friendship grew stronger every day. Pip was no longer a scared rescue puppy. He was a confident, playful friend. The boy was so glad he had adopted him. 10
One evening, a loud thunderstorm boomed outside. Pip was scared. He trembled and hid under the table. The boy sat beside him and spoke softly. "It's okay, Pip. I'm here." He petted Pip's soft fur and gave him treats. Pip pressed close to the boy. The boy's calm voice helped Pip feel safe. Soon Pip stopped shaking. He licked the boy's hand. 11
The boy and Pip practiced being brave together. The boy taught Pip to sit calmly during loud noises. With treats and praise, Pip learned that scary sounds pass. The boy was patient and kind. Pip began to trust that the boy would always protect him. That night, Pip slept curled up on the boy's bed. They both felt safe and warm. 12
From that day on, Pip trusted the boy completely. He followed the boy everywhere. They went on adventures in the backyard and beyond. Pip's mismatched ears perked up with joy. The boy's green treat pouch was always full of rewards. They practiced new skills just for fun. Training was their special time. Their friendship was the best thing in the world. 13
The boy and the puppy became the very best of friends. They played together, learned together, and grew together. Pip was no longer a shy rescue puppy. He was a happy, trusting dog. The boy was proud of the kind, patient training they had done. Every day, their friendship grew stronger. They knew they would always be there for each other.
